A 7-month-old boy had a giant pigmented lesion involving the trunk and thighs that exhibited many hyperpigmented hairy and verrucous nevi. One of the nevi ulcerated and on histological examination consisted of pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma cells that stained for muscle-specific actin (HHF-35), desmin, and myoglobin. A 1.5-year-old Holstein heifer had a subcutaneous tumor mass (20 cm diameter) on the ventral portion of the neck, and the tumor was diagnosed as a locally invasive myofibroblastoma. It consisted of moderately cellular fibrous tissue, and the interlobular septum of the thymus was invaded by tumor cells. The neoplastic cells were positive for alpha smooth muscle actin and vimentin, but not for desmin. Electron microscopy disclosed the presence of moderately developed rough endoplasmic reticulum and microfilaments with focal densities.

Cellular angiofibroma (AF)/Angiomyofibroblastoma (AMF)-like tumor is a rare benign mesenchymal neoplasm. It is very challenging to distinguish benign versus malignant mass radiologically. It is of paramount importance to distinguish Cellular Angiofibroma (CAF) microscopically from its differential diagnoses. A 64-year-old man presented with scrotal swelling. Pathological examination showed features of cellular AF/AMF- like tumor, which shows positivity for CD34, with negativity for S-100 Protein, smooth muscle actin and desmin.

A three-year-old male golden retriever had had progressive dyspnoea, exercise intolerance, stridor, and a modified bark for five months. A mass 2 cm in diameter was present dorsal to the right side of the larynx. Histological examination revealed cross-striations in some elongated cells, consistent with a diagnosis of rhabdomyoma, a diagnosis which was confirmed by positive immunohistochemical staining for myoglobin and desmin. The mass could not be removed without total laryngectomy and a permanent tracheostomy and the dog was euthanased.

We report three cases of an orbital soft tissue lesion that fulfills the histologic, immunohistochemical, and electron microscopic criteria for solitary fibrous tumor, an entity previously described as a pleural tumor, but recently reported to occur in other locations. OBJECTIVE: To study the clinical pathologic and immunohistochemical features of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors (GIMTs), and to investigate the value of molecular markers in GIMTs clinical differentiation diagnosis.
METHODS: The clinical and pathological data of 210 cases of GIMTs, collected from Jan. 1987 to Dec. 2005 in our hospital, were investigated retrospectively. GIMTs were rediagnosed by using standard immunostaining technique in paraffin-embedded tissue. The expression level of CD117, CD34, Desmin, SMA and PS100 were detected by immunohistochemical method.

Schwannoma is usually a solitary, slowly progressing, benign tumour. It arises from the Schwann cells of peripheral, cranial and autonomic nerve sheaths and rarely affects the external female genitalia. We treated a patient in her late 30s with vulvar schwannoma with complete excision. A histological examination showed an encapsulated proliferation of bland spindle cells positive for S100 and SOX10 on immunohistochemistry, negative for desmin. A diagnosis of vulvar schwannoma was made. It carries a good prognosis with complete excision.
