A study was conducted to comparatively evaluate the efficiency of different solvents for dissolving gutta-percha. Halothane, chloroform, xylene, acetone, isopropyl alcohol, turpentine, oil of mela-leuca and eucalyptol were used as solvents for dissolving standardized gutta-percha discs. Oligonucleosomal DNA preparations from condensed-inactive chromatin were examined, before and after artificial methylation by bacterial SssI methylase, for their ability to allow cooperative H1-H1 interactions under conditions of different ionic strength. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of the PAPNET system in identifying microbial organisms.
STUDY DESIGN: Two hundred forty-nine previously screened cervicovaginal smears with a diagnosis of an infectious agent were rescreened by PAPNET system. The images were reviewed on a high-resolution monitor and the presence or absence of coccobacilli, trichomonads, and Candida and herpes organisms was noted.

From 1956 to 1991, 49 cases of the prune belly syndrome were seen at our institution. Voiding information and/or 1 or more urodynamic studies were available in 30 male and 4 female patients. Surgery for the treatment of Zenker's diverticulum was performed at our institution in a total of 43 patients over 6 1/2 years. Prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) was used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in 149 men with erectile dysfunction over a period of 20 months (February 1987-October 1988). The intracavernous application of PGE1 in varying doses resulted in an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse in 79% of cases. Acitretin (etretin [Ro-10-1670]) is the major metabolite of etretinate with a much shorter elimination half-life. The drug was used in the treatment of 20 patients who had cutaneous lupus erythematosus. All patients responded to treatment, but in five, the result was unsatisfactory.
