New Insights into the Relation between Cognition, Behavior, and the CHD5 Gene: A Case-Report of an Adult Male with Parenti-Mignot Neurodevelopmental Syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Parenti-Mignot neurodevelopmental syndrome is caused by pathogenic variants of the CHD5 gene - involved in brain development - and is characterized by developmental delay, intellectual disability, and behavioral disturbances (i.e., autism spectrum disorder or related social problems, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, and aggressive behavior) as well as subtle facial dysmorphisms, epilepsy, hypotonia, and craniosynostosis. To date, cognition, behavior, and psychopathology in patients are either scarcely studied (in children, adolescents, and young adults) or not studied at all. The

Moving across disorders: A cross-sectional study of cognition in early onset ataxia and dystonia.

BACKGROUND: Early onset ataxia (EOA) and Early Onset Dystonia (EOD) are movement disorders developing in young people (age <25 per definition). These disorders result from dysfunctional networks involving the cerebellum and basal ganglia. As these structures are also important for cognition, cognitive deficits can be expected in EOA and EOD. EOA and EOD sometimes co-occur, but in those cases the predominant phenotype is determining. A pending question is whether predominantly EOA and EOD have different profiles of cognitive impairment. OBJECTIVES: We investigated whether cognitive functions w

Childhood Adversity Is Associated with Adult Theory of Mind and Social Affiliation, but Not Face Processing.

People vary substantially in their ability to acquire and maintain social ties. Here, we use a combined epidemiological and individual differences approach to understand the childhood roots of adult social cognitive functioning. We assessed exposure to 25 forms of traumatic childhood experiences in over 5000 adults, along with measures of face discrimination, face memory, theory of mind, social motivation, and social support. Retrospectively-reported experiences of parental maltreatment in childhood (particularly physical abuse) were the most broadly and robustly associated with adult variatio

Sonopsychology: integrating psychological awareness and patient-centered outcomes into ultrasound practice.

Sonopsychology refers to the multidimensional psychological interactions occurring before, during, and after ultrasound examinations. While … ultrasound is not merely a diagnostic tool or processes but also a human encounter. By integrating emotional intelligence and relational competencies into routine practice, examiners can enhance patient satisfaction, trust, and even clinical outcomes. Ultimately, this integrative approach reframes performance assessment emphasizing patient-centered outcomes, moving bey …

Emerging Clinical Technology: Application of Machine Learning to Chronic Pain Assessments Based on Emotional Body Maps.

Depression and anxiety co-occur with chronic pain, and all three are thought to be caused by dysregulation of shared brain systems related to emotional processing associated with body sensations. Understanding the connection between emotional states, pain, and bodily sensations may help understand chronic pain conditions. We developed a mobile platform for measuring pain, emotions, and associated bodily feelings in chronic pain patients in their daily life conditions. Sixty-five chronic back pain patients reported the intensity of their pain, 11 emotional states, and the corresponding body loc

The aesthetic emotional expression of piano music art in the background of Internet of things.

Artwork, generally refers to the work of plastic art. Artwork is divided into many categories, pottery art, traditional Chinese painting, abstract painting, musical instrument, sculpture, cultural relic sculpture, sandstone, imitation sandstone, ornaments, iron art, copper art, stainless steel sculpture and so on. With the continuous influx of artistic works, there are more and more studies on their emotional expression. How to judge whether musical works can bring joy, anger, sadness and joy to people? Is it joy over anger or anger over joy? Now in the era of the Internet of Things, the Inter

Multiangle Correlation Feature Extraction and Disease Prediction Model Construction for Patients With Post-Stroke Dysarthria.

The clinical diagnosis and treatment of motor dysarthria in post-stroke patients is often subjective and neglects the impact of psychological and emotional disorders on disease progression. This study aims to analyze the correlation among emotional expression, psychological state, facial expression, and dysarthria disease severity and is dedicated to the construction of a dysarthria prediction model. We first designed THE-POSSD, a novel Chinese multimodal emotional pathology expression database, which collected acoustic, glottal, and facial data under emotional stimuli from patients at differe

Empathy in Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Empathy is an essential component of human social life. It requires the ability to understand another's mental state and respond with an appropriate emotion or action. Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have been described to exhibit atypical empathic responses which limit communication and social interactions. This review highlights the clinical characteristics and mechanisms underlying empathy in ASD by summarizing 61 peer-reviewed articles. Studies characterized empathic differences due to sex, age, intelligence, and disorder severity and provided valuable insights into the rol

The care of the diabetic child in general practice.

One child in a thousand under the age of 15 years has clinical diabetes. Such children require insulin once or twice daily. Their diabetes is usually best controlled with a diet that provides adequate nutrition for growth and a carbohydrate allowance that balances the hypoglycaemic effect of their insulin. With good initial training in the care of their child, intelligence and emotional stability, families usually cope well with diabetes and allow him to lead a normal life during childhood.

Theory of Mind and Alexithymia in Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Young Adults.

The aim of the current study was to examine theory of mind (ToM), the ability to infer the mental states of others, in young adults who are deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH), and to explore the influence of alexithymia, an inability to understand emotions of the self and others, on ToM performance in this group. Compared to participants with typical hearing, DHH participants displayed significantly lower affective ToM skills and greater alexithymia. After accounting for verbal intelligence quotient, hearing status and alexithymia significantly contributed to poorer ToM performance, accounting for

The Role of Cognitive Deficits in Emotional Dysregulation: a Study on a Simple of Patients from Psychiatric Rehabilitation Communities.

BACKGROUND: Emotional dysregulation is a common feature across various psychiatric disorders, including personality disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, and schizophrenia. It manifests through difficulties in emotion modulation, which can lead to impulsive behaviors, exaggerated emotional reactions, and poor management of negative emotions. Cognitive deficits, particularly those related to executive functions such as inhibition, working memory, and cognitive flexibility, play a crucial role in this process, contributing to a higher vulnerability to emotional dysregulation. This
