Cardiac Fibroma Associated With an Electrically Inactive Myocardial Area in Infancy.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac fibromas are benign tumors associated with ventricular arrhythmias. CASE SUMMARY: An 8-month-old infant presented with cardiac arrest due to ventricular tachycardia. Imaging revealed a large infiltrative left ventricular fibroma with severe myocardial involvement. Due to catastrophic hypoxic-ischemic neurological injury and tumor extent, surgical resection and transplantation were not feasible. A conservative approach was adopted. DISCUSSION: Cardiac fibromas may cause life-threatening arrhythmias. Multimodality imaging is essential to assess resectability, and management…

A Giant in Plain Sight: Multimodality Imaging of a Left Ventricular Fibroma.

A 14-year-old survivor of out-of-hospital ventricular fibrillation arrest with a large intramural left ventricular fibroma and a secondary-prevention implantable cardioverter-defibrillator underwent multimodality reassessment after device lead fracture. Left ventricular ejection fraction was mildly reduced, whereas speckle-tracking echocardiography demonstrated near-akinetic deformation within tumour-bearing segments. Cardiac computed tomography and three-dimensional reconstruction showed the left circumflex coronary artery and first obtuse marginal branch coursing directly over the mass, with…

Benign Solitary Fibroma of the Kidney with Hepatic Metastasis: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Solitary Fibrous Tumor (SFT) is a rare fibroblastic mesenchymal neoplasm. Primary renal involvement is infrequent and generally regarded as benign. Distant metastasis from histologically benign renal SFT is rare and is frequently overlooked or misdiagnosed. CASE PRESENTATION: 66-year-old woman was incidentally discovered to have a left renal mass on routine screening. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography demonstrated an irregular, 82 × 73 × 71 mm mass arising from the lower pole of the left kidney. Concurrent arterial-phase imaging revealed multiple hyperenhancing hepatic nodules

Laparoscopic Excision of Douglas Pouch Fibroma in Contact With the Sigmoid Colon.

Pelvic tumors, especially those in difficult locations such as tumors in the rectouterine pouch in contact with the sigmoid colon, pose therapeutic approach difficulties due to the increased risk of complications, such as intestinal perforation. In practice, open surgical technique is often used even though laparoscopy has more advantages, due to lack of familiarity with delicate endoscopic maneuvers. This article describes the laparoscopic excision of a pelvic mass (residual fibroid after a previous myomectomy) implanted in the rectouterine pouch and in contact with the sigmoid colon. The pat

Anterior Maxillary Ameloblastic Fibroma in a Pediatric Patient: A Case Report.

Ameloblastic fibroma (AF) is a rare benign mixed odontogenic tumor, more frequently observed in children and adolescents. It typically develops in the posterior region of the mandible. Radiographically, it appears as a well-defined radiolucent lesion, requiring histological confirmation to differentiate it from other odontogenic tumors. We report the case of an eight-year-old male patient in good general health who presented following an anterior trauma. The extraoral examination was normal, while the intraoral examination revealed the avulsion of tooth 11, a complicated enamel-dentin fracture…

A case report and literature analysis of a rare nonossifying fibroma of the mandible.

ABSTRACT RATIONALE: Nonossifying fibroma (NOF) is one of the benign bone tumors in adolescents, and it rarely occurs in the jawbone. According to the site of onset, it is divided into the cortical type and the medullary type. Currently, there is no case report of medullary NOF in the mandible of the elderly. Through the description of the diagnosis and treatment experience of this case, combined with literature analysis, it provides help for clinical diagnosis and treatment. PATIENT CONCERNS: The patient was a 69-year-old male who was treated for discomfort due to distension in the right mand…

A Case of an Ossifying Fibroma of the Mandible Suspected as a Static Bone Cavity.

Ossifying fibroma (OF) is a benign fibro-osseous lesion characterized by the proliferation of fibrous connective tissue containing immature bone and/or cementum-like hard tissue. Although the pathogenesis of OF remains unclear, trauma, previous extractions, and periodontitis are considered potential trigger factors. OF is more common in women aged from the second to fourth decades. Clinically, OF is characterized by slow-growing and asymptomatic swelling, often observed incidentally on radiological examinations. OF occurs more frequently in the mandible, particularly above the mandibular canal…

Patellar Tendon Fibroma Mimicking Hemangioma: A Report on a Rare Case.

Fibroma of the tendon sheath (FTS) is an uncommon benign soft tissue tumor of the tendon sheath. Clinical and radiological features are not distinctive enough to clinch the diagnosis preoperatively. FTS occurs mostly around small joints such as the fingers, hands, and wrist. However, it rarely arises around a large joint (knee, shoulder, elbow, or ankle). This case report describes a rare presentation of fibroma within the patellar tendon. The patient, a 35-year-old male, presented with progressive pain and swelling in his left knee. Clinical examination, imaging studies, and histopathological…

A case report on peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma in South India.

Gingival enlargement is a common manifestation of gingival diseases and it is characterized by increase in size of the gingiva. A 20-year-old male reported with the primary complaint of swelling in lower front teeth region for the past 7 month. Patient noticed the swelling to be small when it started and gradually increased to attain the present size. There was no contributing history of bleeding or pain. Excision of the lesion was done using electrocautery followed by histopathological analysis. The challenge for clinicians lies in accurately diagnosing the underlying cause due to the diverse

Rapport de cas Ossifying fibroma in the cervical vertebra of a dog.

The objective of this study was to describe the clinical signs, neurologic examination findings, diagnostic imaging results, and pathologic diagnosis of ossifying fibroma in the cervical vertebra of a dog. A 3-year-old spayed female Pembroke Welsh corgi dog exhibited severe cervical pain and left-sided postural reaction deficits. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a lobulated contrast enhancing mass associated with the C6 cervical vertebra. Due to the lack of response to pain medications, humane euthanasia was elected, and histopathologic evaluation of the mass revealed a fibro-osseous …

Massive ossifying fibroma of mandible: A case report and review of the literature.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Benign fibro-osseous neoplasm. Massive size is rarely reported. May be confused with other pathologies such as fibrous dysplasia or osteosarcoma. Aggressive nature and high recurrence pose management challenges. Treated by surgery. ABSTRACT: Ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous neoplasm. It can affect both mandible and maxilla. Precise diagnosis can be challenging due to significant overlap of clinicopathological features with other neoplasms. Case reports with massive tumor sizes as presented in our case are uncommon. Huge tumor size can cause alarm for other pat…

A Recurrent Case of Ameloblastic Fibroma in 37-year Old Male.

Ameloblastic fibroma (AF) is a benign mixed epithelial and mesenchymal odontogenic tumor. This was previously grouped in odontogenic tumor showing odontogenic epithelium with odontogenic ectomesenchyme, with or without hard tissue formation. This report describes a case of ameloblastic fibroma in a 37-yearold male who came with the complain of swelling in the left side of lower jaw since one year. Enucleation of the mass followed by reconstruction was done six years back. However, after two years of initial treatment; radiographic findings suggested recurrence. Histopathological examination co…

Bilateral Nonossifying Fibroma of the Mandible: A case report of a rare entity.

Nonossifying fibroma (NOF) is a benign lesion confined to the bone marrow and connective tissues without exhibiting osseous metaplasia. NOF of long bones in children is more common than its gnathic counterpart. Mandibular NOF is rare, and there is a paucity of information in the literature. NOF of the jaws clinically presents as a nodular, fibrous, asymptomatic, gingival, or alveolar mucosal enlargement, with or without facial swelling. NOF differs from the ossifying type by the presence of metastatic woven bone in ossifying type. This article reports an example of bilateral, multilocular, NOF…

Juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma: A case of extensive lesion of the maxilla.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma is a rare benign tumor of childhood affecting the facial bones rarely described in literature. Its aggressive growth and high tendency of recurrence make it a real challenge for diagnosis and care. CASE PRESENTATION: This article presents a case of an extensive juvenile trabecular ossifying fibroma of the maxilla in a 14-year-old boy, which required surgical intervention with immediate bone reconstruction using an autogenous graft (iliac crest). No recurrence has been found after two and a half years of follow-up. CLINICAL DI…

Oral irritation fibroma associated with the pathological migration of a primary tooth.

We report the case of a 3-year-old girl referred to our hospital dentistry service, from a public health centre, due to a 4-week-old swelling in the area of the hard palate, causing displacement of the deciduous tooth and the appearance of an interincisal diastema. The clinical characteristics suggested the possibility of a reactive fibroma and we decided to intervene surgically by means of an excisional biopsy. Histology confirmed the presumptive diagnosis. Prompt referral and early surgical care spontaneously favoured both repositioning of the displaced primary tooth and closure of the diast…
