Isolated posterior cruciate ligament injuries are often successfully managed nonoperatively, but displaced tibial-sided bony avulsion fractures are generally considered optimal for surgical fixation. Open reduction and internal fixation and arthroscopic techniques are viable options, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Recent literature describes an arthroscopic 3-tunnel suture-bridge fixation technique for displaced posterior cruciate ligament tibial avulsion fractures, which achieved excellent clinical and radiological outcomes including 100% anatomic reduction and bony union wit

We present the case of a 58-year-old woman who sustained an open avulsion of the Achilles tendon with an unusual posterior extrusion through the popliteal fossa following a run-over trauma, remarkably without associated bony injury or major arterial damage. Surgical exploration revealed a complete tendon avulsion accompanied by a small venous laceration, which was successfully repaired. The tendon was anatomically reinserted into the calcaneus using suture anchors after subcutaneous tunneling along the posterior leg. The popliteal and distal wounds were closed primarily; the posterior wound th

Objectives: Tibial apophysis avulsion fracture is an unusual injury in young pediatric athletes. The mechanism of injury is often related to sports (i.e football and basketball). Fifteen patients who had this kind of fracture underwent surgical Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) with two or three cannulated screws and tendon stripping. In this kind of injury and treatment, one of the most important concerns is the recovery of the extensor apparatus strength of the lower limb. Materials and Methods: We followed up the patients for 12 months, performing biomechanical tests and a kinetic

An 11-year-old girl sustained an irreducible anterior radial head dislocation associated with a Salter-Harris type II proximal radial physeal injury and a volar annular ligament avulsion fracture after falling on an outstretched hand. Closed reduction was unsuccessful. During open reduction, the annular ligament was found interposed within the radiocapitellar joint, avulsed with a small bony fragment from the volar aspect of the radial notch. After ligament release, the radial head remained unstable, requiring anatomical repair using a pullout suture technique. At 1-year follow-up, the patient

CASE: A 13-year-old adolescent girl presented with right hip pain and restricted motion, 3 days following closed reduction of post-traumatic hip dislocation. Initial radiograph looked innocuous. A computed tomography scan was performed due to persistent pain, revealed a bony ligamentum teres (LT) avulsion fragment incarcerated within the hip joint. The fragment was excised through a safe surgical dislocation, and an intraoperatively discovered posterior labral tear was repaired. The patient is asymptomatic at 2-year follow-up.
CONCLUSION: This is a rare case of pediatric LT bony avulsion. Cro

Bone-tendon junctions are prone for acute trauma due to its structural weakness, especially in premature males. For the lower limb, the most eminent area is the tibial tubercle apophysis. Osgood Schlatter disease (OSD) due to repetitive trauma or epiphyseal fractures due to one trauma is well described in literature and known in pediatric practice. Traumatic distal patella tendon ruptures on the other hand are a typical injury of the knee extensor mechanism of mature patients in the fourth decade. Here, the very rare condition of fracture of the tibial tubercle apophysis with simultaneous rupt

CASE: In this case report, we discuss a skeletally immature gymnast who presented with an isolated distal femoral adductor tubercle avulsion fracture that went on to develop a painful nonunion. After the failure of extensive nonoperative intervention, she had resolution of her symptoms with bony excision and soft-tissue repair.
CONCLUSION: It is important for clinicians to be aware of this atypical injury pattern and that surgical intervention may be necessary because conservative treatment may not always resolve symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Ulnar collateral ligament(UCL) fracture-avulsion of the thumb which involves small osseous fragments is among common injuries to the thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint.
METHODS: This case series was conducted on 11 patients (9 males and 2 females) with a mean age of 25.4±4.8 years with acute traumatic UCL fracture-avulsion with instability and Stener Lesion. A low-profile 2-mm stainless steel hook plate with a 2-mm screw was used for the internal fixation. Immobilization was performed for 10 days. Range of motion movements (ROM), grip power, and pinch strength were measured aft

CASE: A 14-year-old boy underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of a tibial tubercle avulsion fracture. Seven weeks postoperatively, the patient slipped in the bathroom and was found to have a superior patellar pole periosteal sleeve avulsion injury.
CONCLUSION: We describe a rare case of periosteal sleeve avulsion fracture of the superior patella pole after tibial tubercle avulsion fracture ORIF in an adolescent male patient. The etiology of this injury pattern may be due to altered tensile forces transmitted through the extensor mechanism related to the previous surgery. Ortho

Traumatic avulsion fractures of the lesser trochanter are usually seen along with fractures of the proximal femur and with young adolescents involved in high-intensity sporting injuries. Atraumatic isolated lesser trochanter avulsion in adults are most commonly associated with malignancy. We describe a case of a female in her sixties who was previously fit and healthy with no systemic illness and no history of trauma presenting with groin pain. The X-ray demonstrated an isolated lesser trochanter avulsion fracture. Further imaging including MRI and a staging CT scan of the neck, chest, abdomen

We present a case of an 18-year-old with a 2-year history of buttock pain who failed extensive treatment for a perceived hamstring strain. Upon evaluation, he was diagnosed with an ischial tuberosity nonunion avulsion fracture. The patient underwent bone grafting via an ultrasound guided leukocyte rich platelet-rich plasma injection followed by the use of a bone stimulator to enhance the bone healing. At 3 months, he was asymptomatic and had radiographic evidence of excellent bone healing. He remained asymptomatic at 1 year and had resumed full activities. This case report is the first in the

The lateral collateral ligament (LCL) complex of the elbow is a capsuloligamentous structure, critical for elbow stability. Though isolated ligamentous injuries have been reported in literature, there are no studies reporting avulsion fractures of the lateral ligamentous complex of the elbow with joint incarceration in a child. An 11-year-old boy presented to the emergency department after a fall from height, with pain and swelling to the lateral side of his left elbow. Radiographs established a fracture of the lateral condyle and CT imaging confirmed an avulsion of the lateral ligamentous com

An anterior-superior iliac spine avulsion fracture is an uncommon injury in adolescent athletes and simultaneous bilateral avulsion fracture is fairly rare. The authors report cases of traumatic avulsion fractures of anterior-superior iliac spine after sports activity in teenagers. Open reduction and cannulate screws fixation resulted in an excellent functional outcome for this relatively uncommon fracture. The authors also stress the importance of careful clinical examination and recommend open reduction and internal fixation for patients requiring rapid rehabilitation.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the early clinical effects of suture anchor fixation for the treatment of avulsion fracture of tibial intercondylar eminence under arthroscopy.
METHODS: From July 2012 to January 2015, 22 patients with the avulsion fracture of tibial intercondylar eminence were treated with arthroscopic suture anchor fixation. There were 12 males and 10 females, with an average age of 22.8 years old(ranged, 18 to 33 years old). Nine patients had the fractures in the right knee and 13 patients had the fractures in the left knee. The mean duration from injury to surgery was 6.8 days(range

INTRODUCTION: Avulsion fractures of the anterior superior iliac spine are rare. Therefore, evidence-based treatment guidelines do not exist. The therapeutic options are either conservative treatment or surgical intervention. The decision depends on grade of dislocation, age of the patient, and his sportive demands and competitive requirements.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We present the cases of two young athletes suffering from traumatic avulsion fractures of the anterior superior iliac spine. In both cases, the musculotendinous unit (sartorius muscle and tensor of the fascia lata) remained attach

Avulsion fractures of the calcaneus are relatively uncommon and are seen most frequently in elderly or osteoporotic patients. A surgical method that avoids displacement of the avulsed fragment after fixation has not been developed. We report the cases of 3 patients (a 73-year-old male, an 85-year-old male, and an 81-year-old female) treated by open reduction and internal fixation using titanium wire and cannulated cancellous screws. The posterior approach was used by way of a vertical midline incision. The fracture was fixed with 2 screws, and then a titanium wire was passed through the holes

The displaced extra-articular avulsion fracture of the calcaneus has been classified as a Böhler type 1c calcaneal fracture, and most cases will require surgical repair. In the present report, we describe 2 patients in whom we performed the soft anchor bridge technique using single loaded suture anchors with lag screws for the repair of Böhler type 1c avulsion fractures of the calcaneus. In one of these patients, clinically relevant osteoporosis complicated the injury. In both cases, bone union was achieved, and by 1.5 months after surgery satisfactory recovery was observed. To our knowledge,

BACKGROUND AND INCIDENCE: Ischial tuberosity fracture and its associated complications are an under recognized diagnosis in the adolescent athlete. Apophyseal injuries of the pelvis in the skeletally immature athlete can occur in multiple locations but are most common at the ischial tuberosity, affecting males more commonly than females.
DESCRIPTION OF INJURY AND CURRENT MANAGEMENT: The most common cause of ischial tuberosity avulsion fracture is a quick eccentric load to the proximal hamstrings, occurring with kicking as in soccer, football, or dance. Signs and symptoms are similar to a prox
