INTRODUCTION: Both bone forearm fractures are common injuries in children. Most can be treated with reduction and casting. Those that fail nonoperative management can be treated with a plate or intramedullary fixation; however, refracture remains a problem. The goal of this study is to evaluate the refracture rate in both bone forearm fractures based on the mode of fixation.
METHODS: Institutional board review approval was obtained. A retrospective chart review from 2010 to 2021 at a single tertiary care institution was conducted for all operative patients <18 years who sustained a both bone

Population aging makes osteoporotic fractures (OP) an increasingly serious healthcare problem. It is estimated that there are approximately 2,200,000 people with an osteoporotic fracture in Poland, and according to the NFZ (National Health Found) report 126,100 new fractures were registered in 2018, including 34,700 fractures of the proximal femur (PFF). Surgical treatment of OP fractures is difficult due to local conditions and the general health condition of the patients. Reduced bone strength makes it difficult to achieve permanent bone fixation and union. The current "Guidelines for th

BACKGROUND: This review discusses success, time to healing, and complications of bone morphogenic proteins (BMPs) 7 and 2 in treating upper extremity nonunions.
METHODS: Systematic review identified 26 of 479 studies that met inclusion criteria. Publications described application of BMPs to acute and chronic upper extremity delayed unions/nonunions. Unions, complications, patient demographics, and fracture/healing patterns were pooled and analyzed.
RESULTS: Nonunions treated with BMP-7 (n=302) involved the humerus (64%), forearm (22%), clavicle (11%), and hand/wrist (3%), with prior surgical

Temporal bone fracture accounts for 30-70% of skull fractures. Temporal bone trauma is associated with severe traumatic brain injury. Temporal bone fractures are invariably due to road traffic accidents (RTA). Temporal bone fractures are traditionally classified as transverse, longitudinal or mixed fractures depending on their relationship to the petrous pyramid. Recent studies classify temporal bone fractures as otic capsule sparing (OCS) and otic capsule violating (OCV) types and has more relevance with the prognosis of hearing loss and complications. To study of type and degree of hearing l

Timing of cranial trauma is challenging in forensic cases and literature on the subject is scarce. This study analysed the macroscopic fracture patterns of perimortem cranial fractures and compared them to experimentally reproduced cranial fractures on dry human craniums. The results showed nine traits associated with fresh cranial fractures: undulated margin, flake defects, peels with peel defects, fissures, crushed margins, bridge, bone scales and beveling. All the traits appear on the outer table or on the inner table of the cranium. Although not all characteristics must be present at the s

OBJECTIVE: Ballistic injuries to the temporal bone are uncommon but devastating injuries that damage critical neurovascular structures. This review describes outcomes after ballistic injuries to the temporal bone and offers initiatives for standardized high-quality future research.
DATA SOURCES: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane.
REVIEW METHODS: Studies in the review included adults who experienced temporal bone fractures due to gunshot wounds and survived longer than 48 hours. Individual case reports were excluded. The various searches returned 139 results, of which 6 met

The skeletal system is fundamental for the structure and support of the body consisting of bones, cartilage, and connective tissues. Poor fracture healing is a chief clinical problem leading to disability, extended hospital stays and huge financial liability. Even though most fractures are cured using standard clinical methods, about 10% of fractures are delayed or non-union. Despite decades of progress, the bone-targeted delivery system is still restricted due to the distinctive anatomical bone features. Recently, various novel nanocomposite systems have been designed for the cell-specific ta
