We retrospectively reviewed the records of 60 patients who had been referred for gastrointestinal manometry because of stasis after gastric surgery. Nausea, vomiting, bloating, abdominal pain, and weight loss were the most common symptoms. The risk of developing gastric cancer has been investigated in a case-control study and in a prospective investigation. In the case-control study, 1495 cases of gastric cancer were identified in five city hospitals and matched with autopsy controls from the same hospitals. In order to assess the role of 99mTc-iminodiacetic acid (IDA) cholescintigraphy in evaluating postoperative patients, a total of 213 studies were performed in 189 patients over a 3-year time period. BACKGROUND: The traditional Billroth II and Roux-en-Y anastomosis after laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer are associated with bile reflux gastritis and roux stasis syndrome, respectively. The uncut Roux-en-Y gastrojejunostomy can decrease the incidence of these complications by blocking the entry of bile and pancreatic juice into the residual stomach and retaining the impulses originating from the duodenum. The purpose of the present study was to compare the short-term outcomes of uncut Roux-en-Y (URY) and Billroth II combined Braun (BB) anastomosis.

BACKGROUND: We assessed the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) after subtotal gastrectomy with Billroth II anastomosis (SGBIIA) for peptic ulcer disease (PUD).
METHODS: The Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database was used, and 6160 patients undergoing SGBIIA for PUD were identified as the surgical cohort. A total of 24,540 patients from the PUD population not undergoing surgery selected by frequency-matching were identified as the non-surgical cohort. All patients were followed until the end of 2011 to measure the incidence of CHD.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are rare tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. They, however, occur most commonly in the stomach where they present with abdominal pain, bleeding, and obstruction. Many are asymptomatic and are discovered incidentally or at postmortem. We present a case-report of a rare complication of gastrointestinal stromal tumors of the stomach causing gastroduodenal intussusception and how patient was successfully managed by laparoscopic Billroth II distal gastrectomy.

Results of treatment of 333 patients with duodenal ulcer disease (DUD) combined with chronic duodenal impassability (DDI) were analyzed. Principles of surgical tactics choice were expounded, and indications for the operation were substantiated. Postoperative complications occurred in 9.3% of patients. Improvement of surgical results was promoted by application of an adequate procedure with chronic duodenal impassability correction.

Seven cases of upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage after gastroduodenal surgery are presented; in all the cases the pyloric region had been resected or excluded. The gastritis was documented by endoscopy and/or surgery; it was located in the area proximal to the anastomosis. There were no other causes of bleeding. The study presents the autopsy findings on 55 patients with carcinoma of the operated stomach. In 13 patients with advanced peritonitis (postoperative suture line breakdown in eight and spontaneous intestinal perforation in five) treatment consisted of widely opening the peritoneal cavity and exposing the contaminated viscera. 78 patients were operated on from 1st July to 31th December 1976 according to the method of Roux-en-Y-loop under several indications concerning primary and secondary reconstructive procedures in abdominal surgery. The experiences made are good. We recommend this method.
