OBJECTIVES: This study reviews how social and environmental issues affect health in Arctic populations and describes infectious disease surveillance in Arctic Nations with a special focus on the activities of the International Circumpolar Surveillance (ICS) project.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to develop a multisource surveillance system for work-related burns.
METHODS: For 2009, records about work-related burns were obtained from Michigan's 134 hospitals, the Workers' Compensation Agency, the state's sole Poison Control Center, and death certificates. Companies where the most severe burns occurred were referred to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Malignant Hyperthermia (MH) has been a recognized complication of general anesthesia after the first case reports in the 1940's. Since then a great deal has been discovered about the genetics, pathophysiology and treatment of this once fatal syndrome. This article examines the emergence of radical HIV activism in the Russian Federation through the case of the Front AIDS movement and its confrontation with established health care politics. Drawing on interviews, media sources, and policy analysis, it shows how activists challenged the system based on selective access to treatment and the coercive regulation of people who use drugs. BACKGROUND: The African continent has long faced fragmented regulatory systems, resulting in delayed access to safe, effective, and quality-assured medical products. To address these challenges, the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonisation (AMRH) Programme was launched in 2009 by the African Union, laying the groundwork for the establishment of the African Medicines Agency (AMA). The AMA represents one of the most significant continental developments to harmonize regulatory practices, improve access to quality-assured medical products, and strengthen public health systems across Africa.

BACKGROUND: Kidney transplant is the gold standard for renal replacement therapy in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), which is the fourth leading cause of kidney failure. Despite the medical and economic benefits of preemptive kidney transplant over dialysis before transplant, only 9-21% of qualifying patients receive preemptive transplants.
