Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura is a rare but life-threatening emergency. Tuberculosis can have hematologic complications. However, concurrent tuberculosis and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura are extremely rare. In this study, we report a 53-year-old man who was initially treated for pulmonary tuberculosis but later developed weakness and an altered mental status. Laboratory tests revealed evidence of thrombocytopenia, acute renal insufficiency, and microangiopathic hemolytic anemia. Brain imaging identified intracranial hemorrhage. This retrospective, descriptive study aimed to assess hematologic testing practices in 100 patients with preeclampsia undergoing neuraxial blockade (NB). Prior to NB, platelet (PLT) count was performed in 61 (98%) of 62 women in labor and in 37 (97%) of 38 women undergoing cesarean delivery (CD). No patients had a pre-NB PLT count <70 × 10(9)/L. Five children with malignancies (3 hematologic, 1 medulloblastoma, 1 hepatoblastoma) and one bone marrow transplant patient were treated for tuberculosis over a 30-year period. INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics of hematologic parameters in young patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO).
METHODS: All participants underwent routine ocular examinations and blood sample tests. Hematologic parameters obtained from a complete blood count, as well as the calculation of specific inflammatory indices, were compared between young patients with RVO and the control subjects.
