We report the development of HSV-1 laryngotracheitis during the resolution phase of typical viral laryngotracheobronchitis (LTB) in an infant. This case represents an uncommon complication of viral LTB which has previously been described only at autopsy and suggests that prolonged use of systemic corticosteroids may lead to secondary infections, such as HSV-1. Therefore, we recommend that corticosteroid therapy for LTB be limited to 48 degrees in duration. Adult ICR/Slc or BALB/c mice developed hydrocephalus when attenuated herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) (strain Ska) was injected intracerebrally 2 to 4 weeks earlier and then after mice were challenged with the same virus or virulent HSV-1. Twenty-three male patients with herpes simplex virus type 2 blisters on the prepuce, glans penis, and penile shaft were divided into 2 groups. Ten patients served as controls, and thirteen patients were treated with ultrasound (1 W/cm2 for 60 sec) and Herpigon on 3 consecutive days. Results showed a negative virus culture after 3 days of treatment and significant reduction of the recurrent infection in the treated group while the control group experienced recurrent infection within 62--80 days. This method offers a new therapeutic treatment for genital herpes simplex virus.

Treatment of mice with LPS at the time of priming with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) causes the preferential activation of virus-specific T suppressor (Ts) cells. These Ts cells can transfer suppression to the efferent limb of a DTH response. This case reports a 45-year-old man with a history of bilateral lung transplantation for cystic fibrosis, on immunosuppressive therapy with tacrolimus and mycophenolate, presented with odynophagia. Examination showed painful ulcer clusters across the tongue, without oropharyngeal or systemic involvement. Labs and imaging were unremarkable. We present a case report of a living liver donor death from Herpes simplex hepatitis, highlighting the need for vigilance regarding rare but treatable causes of acute liver failure after donor hepatectomy.
