Gestational Trophoblastic Disorders: An Update in 2015.

Gestational trophoblastic diseases (GTD) are a group of pregnancy-related disorders representing rare human tumours. They encompass premalignant disorders including complete (CHM), partial hydatidiform mole (PHM), exaggerated placental site (EPS), and placental-site nodule (PSN) as well as malignant disorders (also known as "gestational trophoblastic neoplasia [GTN]") including invasive mole, choriocarcinoma (CC), placenta-site trophoblastic tumour (PSTT), and epitheloid trophoblastic tumours (ETT) (Fig. 1). Originally, GTD develop from abnormal proliferation of trophoblastic tissue and form b

Hydatidiform mole in 59-years-old woman: a case report.

We describe a clinical data and histopathological findings in hydatidiform mole found in 59-years-old woman. The patient was admitted to Hospital with vaginal bleeding. Diagnostic curettage revealed hydatidiform mole VI group according to Hertig-Sheldon classification. The patient underwent transabdominal hysterectomy and bilateral oophorosalpingectomy. The serum level of beta-HCG has decreased from initially observed 128.6 U/l to less than 3 U/l after 3 courses of MTX therapy. Patient is under every-six-month observation. No further treatment is planned.

Roentgenologic manifestations of pulmonary metastases in choriocarcinoma and invasive mole.

From 1949 to 1975, a total of 3,915 chest films were taken for 429 cases of choriocarcinoma and 441 cases of invasive mole. The incidences of pulmonary metastases were 85.1% and 65.0%, respectively. The various forms of pulmonary metastases were studied and correlated with clinical symptoms and pathologic changes. In order to follow up the progression or regression of the various forms, serial chest films were taken at intervals of 10 to 14 days in 27 cases. In eight cases postmortem pulmonary arteriograms were obtained on the autopsied lung specimens for the study of vascular changes of metas

Gestational trophoblastic disease.

BACKGROUND: Molar pregnancy represents a significant burden of disease on the spectrum of Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD). The incidence appears to be quite high in South Asia. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of GTD, and clinical presentation, management and outcome of patients with molar pregnancy. METHODS: This retrospective, descriptive study was conducted at Nuclear Institute of Medicine and Radiotherapy (NIMRA), Jamshoro from 1st Jan to 31st Dec 2009. All patients diagnosed and registered as GTD were included in the study. The clinical records of all mo

Expression of epidermal growth factor in gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD).

Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD) is an abnormal condition of the placenta, the incidence of which is very high in the State of Kerala, India. The biology of the disease is vague and methods to determine the malignant potentialis limited. Placentae of normal (50) and molar pregnancy (95) including 32 patients showing persistent disease were used in this study. EGF expression was analyzed by immunohistochemistry using monoclonal antibody to EGF and quantitated using isotope labelled antibody to EGF. EGF was expressed more strongly in molar placentae in all gestational ages in comparison w
