Prostaglandin analogs are commonly used in the treatment of glaucoma. They are a safe and effective treatment associated with few side effects. Common local side effects include conjunctival hyperemia, iris pigmentation, and eyelash hypertrichosis. The authors present a case of a patient using travoprost treatment for primary open-angle glaucoma, who underwent excision of a lower eyelid basal cell carcinoma and reconstruction with an upper eyelid tarsoconjunctival flap and overlying skin graft. The patient developed hypertrichosis of the skin graft attributable to prostaglandin analog use.

We present a moderately mentally retarded boy with obesity, short stature, hypertrichosis and facial dysmorphism due to a deletion of 1.2 Mb on chromosome 19p13.2. The deletion was de novo and familial history was negative for the disorder. Genes in the deleted region possibly related to the clinical symptoms of our patient include NOTCH3 (MIM600276), causative of the vascular neurodegenerative disorder CADASIL and CASP14 (MIM605848), playing a central role in apoptosis in the inner root sheeth of the hair follicle.

A 13-year-old Quarterhorse mare had a 6-month history of diarrhea, progressive weight loss, and lethargy. At presentation the mare was hirsute, had hyperhidrosis, and abnormal fat distribution in addition to severe diarrhea. After application of bimatoprost containing eye drops for four weeks, a 72 year-old patient, suffering from glaucoma, developed hyperpigmentation and hypertrichosis of the eyelids. These symptoms can be seen in 1-10% of the patients as side effects in local therapy with bimatoprost, a prostaglandin analogue. The changes persist for varying periods of time but are reversible. In this correspondence, we hypothesize that the hypertrichosis pinnae auris might influence the hearing power of an individual. It is a well established fact that the inner cells of the ears acts as sensory cells which respond to the incoming sound vibrations. The occurrence and degree of hairiness have been reported to increase with advancing age; therefore, we theorize that there might be the presence of the sensory activity in the hairs present on the outer area of the ear, which would enhance the hearing ability of the individuals.

Fibrous hamartoma of infancy (FHI) is a rare, benign, soft tissue tumor. The lesion's clinical resemblance to more aggressive soft tissue tumors of childhood makes histologic diagnosis paramount. We report a unique presentation of a FHI associated with localized hypertrichosis and hyperhidrosis.

BACKGROUND: Temporary black henna tattooing is highly popular among children and young adults in some regions. The unmonitored addition of different products to darken the color of pure henna has been the cause of many tattoo-associated dermatoses.
OBSERVATION: Hypertrichosis secondary to henna pseudotattoo is a rare, newly recognized cutaneous manifestation. Hairs are complex structures, making a protective layer and serves different biological functions. TRPS1, a transcription factor is one of the candidate genes causing congenital hypertrichosis, an excessive hair growth at inappropriate body parts. Several forms of hypertrichosis have been described with and without gingival hyperplasia; some of them are recognized as genetic disorder and associated with syndromes. In all reported cases the most striking differences from other are the craniofacial features. We present a case of a 6-year-old boy with hypertrichosis associated with gingival hyperplasia and a characteristic, coarse face and we consider this case to be a distinctive entity.
