Pathological Image Segmentation of Breast Cancer via Template Matching.

Accurate pathological image segmentation is crucial for the clinical diagnosis of breast cancer. However, existing methods of pathological segmentation face challenges due to the variability and complexity of breast cancer on pathological images. To address these issues, we propose a novel segmentaion network called template-matching pathological segmentation network. Our method incorporates an innovative template matching strategy inspired by the diagnostic process of pathologists. The template matching strategy is to utilize visual transformer to establish a correlative relationship between

An orchestration learning framework for ultrasound imaging: Prompt-Guided Hyper-Perception and Attention-Matching Downstream Synchronization.

Ultrasound imaging is pivotal in clinical diagnostics due to its affordability, portability, safety, real-time capability, and non-invasive nature. It is widely utilized for examining various organs, such as the breast, thyroid, ovary, cardiac, and more. However, the manual interpretation and annotation of ultrasound images are time-consuming and prone to variability among physicians. While single-task artificial intelligence (AI) solutions have been explored, they are not ideal for scaling AI applications in medical imaging. Foundation models, although a trending solution, often struggle with

Fusion of Texture Features Applied to H. pylori Infection Classification from Histopathological Images.

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a globally prevalent pathogenic bacterium. It affects over 4 billion people worldwide and contributes to many gastric diseases such as gastritis, peptic ulcers, and cancer. Its diagnosis traditionally relies on histopathological analysis of endoscopic biopsies by trained pathologists. It is a labor-intensive and time-consuming process that risks overlooking small bacterial populations. Another limiting factor is the cost, which can vary from a few dozen to hundreds of dollars. In order to automate this process, our study evaluated the potential of various tex

Self-knowledge distillation-empowered directional connectivity transformer for microbial keratitis biomarkers segmentation on slit-lamp photography.

The lack of standardized, objective tools for measuring biomarker morphology poses a significant obstacle to managing Microbial Keratitis (MK). Previous studies have demonstrated that robust segmentation benefits MK diagnosis, management, and estimation of visual outcomes. However, despite exciting advances, current methods cannot accurately detect biomarker boundaries and differentiate the overlapped regions in challenging cases. In this work, we propose a novel self-knowledge distillation-empowered directional connectivity transformer, called SDCTrans. We utilize the directional connectivity

Cross-domain lung opacity detection via adversarial learning and box fusion.

Many conditions, such as pulmonary edema, bleeding, atelectasis or collapse, lung cancer, and shadow formation after radiotherapy or surgical changes, cause Lung Opacity. An unsupervised cross-domain Lung Opacity detection method is proposed to help surgeons quickly locate Lung Opacity without additional manual annotations. This study proposes a novel method based on adversarial learning to detect Lung Opacity on chest X-rays. Focal loss, GIoU loss, and WBF (weighted boxes fusion) were used in training. We conducted extensive experiments on Chest X-rays from RSNA (Radiological Society of North

Graph-Based Fusion of Imaging, Genetic and Clinical Data for Degenerative Disease Diagnosis.

Graph learning methods have achieved noteworthy performance in disease diagnosis due to their ability to represent unstructured information such as inter-subject relationships. While it has been shown that imaging, genetic and clinical data are crucial for degenerative disease diagnosis, existing methods rarely consider how best to use their relationships. How best to utilize information from imaging, genetic and clinical data remains a challenging problem. This study proposes a novel graph-based fusion (GBF) approach to meet this challenge. To extract effective imaging-genetic features, we pr

An Effective Occipitomental View Enhancement Based on Adaptive Morphological Texture Analysis.

This paper aims to present an algorithm that specifically enhances maxillary sinuses using a novel contrast enhancement technique based on the adaptive morphological texture analysis for occipitomental view radiographs. First, the skull X-ray (SXR) is decomposed into rotational blocks (RBs). Second, each RB is rotated into various directions and processed using morphological kernels to obtain the dark and bright features. Third, a gradient-based block segmentation decomposes the interpolated feature maps into feature blocks (FBs). Finally, the histograms of FBs are equalized and overlaid local

Quantification of synovial and erosive changes in rheumatoid arthritis with ultrasound--revisited.

Synovitis is a predictive factor of irreversible changes in the joints, tendons, and ligaments in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Therefore, the early demonstration of reversible, pre-erosive inflammatory features to diagnose RA, the monitoring of disease activity, and the response to therapy are of great importance. Technical developments in ultrasound now allow the quantification of synovitis and erosions, and enable the assessment and follow-up of disease activity. However, both the subjective and objective quantification techniques are associated with different problems. This revi

Cascade marker removal algorithm for thyroid ultrasound images.

During thyroid ultrasound diagnosis, radiologists add markers such as pluses or crosses near a nodule's edge to indicate the location of a nodule. For computer-aided detection, deep learning models achieve classification, segmentation, and detection by learning the thyroid's texture in ultrasound images. Experiments show that manual markers are strong prior knowledge for data-driven deep learning models, which interferes with the judgment mechanism of computer-aided detection systems. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes cascade marker removal algorithm for thyroid ultrasound images to

Particle Diffusion Matching: Random Walk Correspondence Search for the Alignment of Standard and Ultra-Widefield Fundus Images.

We propose a robust alignment technique for Standard Fundus Images (SFIs) and Ultra-Widefield Fundus Images (UWFIs), which are challenging to align due to differences in scale, appearance, and the scarcity of distinctive features. Our method, termed Particle Diffusion Matching (PDM), performs alignment through an iterative Random Walk Correspondence Search (RWCS) guided by a diffusion model. At each iteration, the model estimates displacement vectors for particle points by considering local appearance, the structural distribution of particles, and an estimated global transformation, enabling p

Research on breast ultrasound images lesion localization and diagnosis based on knowledge-driven and data-driven methods.

Breast cancer poses the most significant threat to women's health, yet early detection through screening can markedly reduce mortality. Ultrasound imaging, with its affordability, non-invasiveness, and efficacy in dense breast tissue, has emerged as a crucial tool for early screening. Recent advancements in computer vision have spurred the development of computer-aided diagnostic systems that focus on the automated localization and diagnosis of breast lesions. However, challenges such as speckle noise, blurred boundaries, and low contrast in ultrasound images impede accurate lesion detection.

Advancing radiograph representation learning via cascading graph alignment for vision-language clinical concepts.

Vision-language pre-training on paired radiology images and reports has shown great potential to promote downstream image tasks. However, its potential is far from fully unleashed when conducting implicit alignment for clinically significant concepts (e.g., anatomic and pathology findings) between visual and textual embeddings, as most prior works did. Without explicit exploration, it easily confuses critical medical concepts with non-essential background content, and fails to compactly investigate each image-report pair from a well-structured systematic point of view, causing miscalibrated se

DSFNet: Dual-source and spatiotemporal-feature fusion network for bedside diagnosis of lung injuries with electrical impedance tomography.

Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is a promising tool for non-invasive and real-time lung monitoring, but the data heterogeneity and low spatial resolution limit its ability to diagnose lung injuries. To address these challenges, we propose DSFNet, a dual-source and spatiotemporal-feature fusion network that integrates EIT spatiotemporal boundary voltages and ventilation images to classify four lung conditions, including healthy (HE), pneumothorax (PN), pleural effusion (PE), and pneumonia (PM). The temporal dynamics modeling (TDM) module and multi-head self-attention (MHSA) module are des

GDPooled transformer: glaucoma detection using pooled attention based transformer with attention mechanism.

Glaucoma is a common eye disease affecting several people worldwide. Blindness can be avoided with proper treatment and regular examination. Delayed diagnosis of eye disease causes serious damage to the optic nerve, resulting in loss of vision and blindness. As a result, early disease detection is crucial, and the current research has employed time-consuming machine-learning techniques. It is also difficult to detect eye diseases using computer-aided diagnostic systems because they rely on manually designed features to assess the disease. In order to detect glaucoma, the proposed work presente

Assessment of different U-Net backbones in segmenting colorectal adenocarcinoma from H&E histopathology.

Adenocarcinoma, the most prevalent type of colorectal cancer, makes up roughly 95 % of all cases and is associated with a notably high mortality rate. Owing to the various risk factors which might include personal choices and habits or genetic factors, the risk of developing the cancer for every individual might vary. However, given the statistics, the rate of acquiring the disease is pretty high. Therefore, based on the need for early detection and diagnosis of the disease, there is a pressing demand for an automated system to accurately identify adenocarcinoma in the colorectal region by uti
