Community notification, known as "Megan's Law," provides the public with information about known sex offenders in an effort to assist parents and potential victims to protect themselves from dangerous predators. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of community notification on the lives of registered sex offenders. Two hundred and thirty-nine sex offenders in Connecticut and Indiana were surveyed. With the rapid rise of state-sponsored gambling during the 1990s, the number of problem gamblers increased as well. In this study, 800 Indiana adult residents were randomly surveyed to evaluate the impact of a statewide advertising campaign designed to increase awareness of problem gambling. Apneic anesthesia with intermittent ventilation (AAIV) has been used in 250 procedures on the larynx and trachea at Indiana University Medical Center since October 1989. Initially employed for laryngeal papilloma removal in children, this anesthetic technique is now used for other procedures and in adult patients. The advantages of AAIV include improved visualization of the airway, absence of combustible material, and lack of vocal cord motion during surgery. Continent ureteral diversion at the time of pelvic exenteration avoids an external appliance and allows patients to retain "bladder" reservoir function. The technical difficulty of this procedure requires meticulous attention to operative and perioperative care, particularly after pelvic irradiation. Many genes that regulate development share a 180 bp DNA sequence, called the homeobox, encoding a 60 amino acid DNA-binding domain ( McGinnis et al., 1984c; Scott and Weiner, 1984). Because the homeobox is long enough to hybridize to related, but different, genes, it has been a powerful tool for discovering developmental regulators. A microfluidic genoserotyping strategy for fast and objective identification of common Salmonella serotypes isolated from retail food samples in China.

Strict monitoring of Salmonella serotypes is the most effective way to limit the risk of its transmission to humans. In this study, a microfluidic genoserotyping strategy was developed for the rapid and cost-effective detection of 11 common Salmonella serotypes from retail food samples, i.e. Typhimurium, Derby, Indiana, Agona, Rissen, Braenderup, Hadar, Enteritidis, Weltevreden, Meleagridis, and Pomona. Records of all patients with carcinoma of the floor of mouth seen at the Indiana School of Medicine University Hospital between March 1965 and March 1975 were reviewed. 126 patients with these tumors were seen during this ten-year period.
