BACKGROUND: We describe two cases of recurrent acute angle-closure attack in patients with plateau iris syndrome after cataract extraction. Argon laser peripheral iridoplasty and cataract extraction have been used to reduce the occurrence of acute angle-closure attack in plateau iris syndrome although the risk cannot be completely eliminated. There is no consensus on the long term management of plateau iris syndrome. This is, as far as we know, the first case report of recurrent acute angle-closure attack in plateau iris syndrome after cataract extraction.

A 55-year-old man presented with bilateral reduced visual acuity, limitation of extraocular movements, areflexia and ataxia. He was diagnosed with Miller Fisher Syndrome, precipitating bilateral simultaneous acute angle closure glaucoma due to autonomic dysfunction. He was subsequently treated for both conditions and made an excellent recovery.

PURPOSE: Stuve-Wiedemann syndrome is a rare condition consisting of bone dysplasia, hypotony, and dysautonomia with ocular and neuropathic features. We present the ocular findings and visual outcome in 4 patients (2 siblings, 1 related cousin, and 1 unrelated patient) with this syndrome.
METHODS: A retrospective case series review. Clinical notes of 4 patients with Stuve-Wiedemann syndrome were reviewed for findings of systemic features, ocular examination, visual acuity, and ocular procedures.

Angle-closure glaucoma is a major cause of visual impairment worldwide, with Plateau iris syndrome presenting management challenges. We present a case report of a 58-year-old woman with advanced, uncontrolled angle--closure glaucoma and Plateau iris.
