Hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome (HIE) is a rare condition characterised by marked elevation of serum IgE level, chronic dermatitis, intense pruritus, and recurrent serious infection. The major organism is usually S aureus. We report a case of an infant with HIE, who had pulmonary nocardiosis. The clinical features, immunological abnormalities, and radiological features of the condition are described. The child finally succumbed to the complications of pulmonary nocardiosis.

A case of prolonged infection of the floor of the mouth with a generalized eczematous dermatitis in a 13-year-old boy is described. Immunologic examination revealed markedly elevated serum concentration of immunoglobulin E (IgE) and impaired neutrophil chemotaxis. The disorder was diagnosed as the hyperimmunoglobulinemia E (Buckley's syndrome) and was successfully treated with high doses of antibiotics and human immunoglobulin.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the increased risk for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) in men and women with hand-arm vibration (HAV) exposure.
DESIGN: Case-control study of CTS where 4396 cases was obtained from National Outpatient Register between 2005 through 2016. Cases were matched to controls and exposure was estimated using a job exposure matrix.

AIMS: The investigation of the association between known risk factors and laterality in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: 130 consecutive subjects with CTS only, or mainly, in the left hand were compared with 130 consecutive subjects with CTS only, or mainly, in the right hand. PURPOSE: Autosomal recessive dedicator of cytokinesis 8 (DOCK8-/-) and autosomal dominant signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3-/+) deficiencies are inborn errors of immunity (IEI) disorders present with the classic features of eczema and create a dilemma during differentiation from atopic dermatitis (AD). Therefore, an appropriate approach is required for eczema to diagnose DOCK8-/- and STAT3-/+ early. BACKGROUND: Atopic eczema is a common childhood disease associated with high IgE and eosinophilia. We characterized the clinical features associated with hyper-IgE (defined as IgE > 2000 IU/L) in eczema.
METHODS: Nottingham Eczema Severity Score (NESS), family and personal history of atopy, skin prick test (SPT) for common food and aeroallergens, highest serum IgE ever and eosinophil counts were evaluated in 330 children eczema patients. Childhood-NESS (NESS performed at <10 years of age) and adolescent-NESS (NESS performed at >10 years of age) were further analyzed.

A case of necrotizing fasciitis in association with hyperimmunoglobulin E (HIE) syndrome is reported. The patient was a 17-year-old Japanese boy with a clinical history of recurrent skin and pulmonary infections and eczematoid dermatitis, markedly elevated serum levels of IgE, and coarse facies. OBJECTIVE: To investigate a biopsychosocial model of risk for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). In addition, a host of exploratory psychosocial variables was investigated as potential risk factors for CTS.
METHODS: A case-control design was used comparing 87 CTS and 74 sex-matched general orthopedic patients from an outpatient orthopedic clinic. All participants underwent the same diagnostic protocol (ie, physical evaluation and electrodiagnostic testing) and completed a self-report questionnaire assessing a wide range of potential occupational, personological, and psychosocial risk factors.

OBJECTIVE: To assess whether work-related physical activities are associated with Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), even when controlling for personal risk factors.
METHODS: A cross-sectional assessment of 1108 workers from eight employers and three unions completed nerve conduction testing, physical examination, and questionnaires. CTS was defined by median neuropathy and associated symptoms.

A retrospective study was performed to evaluate treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome. Two hundred sixty-five patients were treated over a 4 1/2-year period.
