Comparison of Mc Grath-MAC and C-MAC video laryngoscopes for intubation in a COVID simulated mannequin by novice users wearing face protective gear: A randomized crossover trial.

INTRODUCTION: Intubation in COVID patients is challenging. Various guidelines suggest the use of video-laryngoscope (VL) as the first device to aid intubation in a COVID patient. The best VL to facilitate intubation in such a setting especially by novices is not ascertained. We compared intubation characteristics by two VL's (McGrath-MAC and C-MAC) for intubation in a COVID simulated mannequin by novices. METHODOLOGY: This prospective randomized manikin-based crossover study was done in thirty medical professionals with no previous experience of intubation with VL. All participants were train

Videolaryngoscopic Intubation and Difficult Airway Classification (VIDIAC) accuracy in the prediction of first-pass nasal intubation using a video laryngoscope.

BACKGROUND: The Cormack-Lehane (CL) classification and the percentage of glottic opening (POGO) score are used for glottic views during direct laryngoscopy; however, no standard scoring exists for video-laryngoscopy. The Video Laryngoscopic Intubation and Difficult Airway Classification (VIDIAC) model was recently proposed to grade glottic views during video-laryngoscopy. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the VIDIAC score in predicting first-pass nasal intubation success using the Touren video laryngoscope in patients undergoing head and neck surgery. METHODS: After ethi

The C-MAC video laryngoscope helps presbyopic anesthetists to overcome difficulty in neonatal and infantile intubation: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Endotracheal intubation (ETI) is a life-saving procedure that must be accurately carried on to guard against complications. Presbyopia leads to difficulty in viewing close objects and may obstacle proper intubation even with the best hands. PURPOSE: This study supposed that the use of video-laryngoscope (VL) may provide better intubation conditions for presbyopic anesthetists and targets to evaluate the neonates and infants' intubation success rates (ISR) by anesthetists aged ≥ 45 years using the C-MAC VL compared to the standard laryngoscope (SL). METHODS: Thirty-one neonates wi

Use of Video Laryngoscope in Sedated Spontaneously Breathing Patients with Predicted Difficult Tracheal Intubation and Impossibility of Using Fibreoptic Bronchoscopy.

Intubation with a flexible fibrobronchoscope in an awake patient is frequently considered the technique of choice in patients with predicted difficult intubation. There are, however, situations in which the use of the fibrobronchoscope is not applicable, particularly due to problems attributable to the patient or to limited use of the instrument. In such situations, the video laryngoscope can be a useful alternative, as long as it is associated with adequate sedation of the patient. In fact, it ensures excellent viewing of the glottis, allowing for successful orotracheal intubation to be perfo

A Prospective Crossover Study Evaluating the Efficacy of King Vision Video Laryngoscope in Patients Requiring General Anesthesia with Endotracheal Intubation.

BACKGROUND: Direct laryngoscopy used for tracheal intubation requires aligning the pharyngeal, laryngeal and oral axes to achieve a line of sight. Video laryngoscopy provides a better view of the glottis without the need for aligning the three axes. AIMS: To evaluate the effectiveness of King vision laryngoscope over Macintosh laryngoscope in visualizing the glottis and intubating the trachea, when used on a same patient as in a cross over manner. SETTINGS AND DESIGN: Department of Anaesthesia, Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences, prospective crossover study conducted over a period of six

Comparison of intubation conditions with CMAC Miller videolaryngoscope and conventional Miller laryngoscope in lateral position in infants: A prospective randomized trial.

BACKGROUND: Endotracheal intubation in lateral position in infants is a challenge. This difficulty may be surmounted to some extent by using videolaryngoscopes but the routine use of these devices as a tool to secure the airway in lateral position remains unevaluated. Therefore, we conducted a prospective, randomized controlled trial to compare the intubation conditions achieved with the CMAC videolaryngoscope and the Miller Laryngoscope in lateral position in infants. We hypothesized that CMAC videolaryngoscope would provide a better laryngoscopic view and reduce the time to intubation compar…

Comparison of intubation times using a manikin with an immobilized cervical spine: Macintosh laryngoscope vs. GlideScope vs. fiberoptic bronchoscope.

OBJECTIVE: Airway management in patients with suspected cervical spine injury is classified as a "difficult airway." The best device for managing difficult airways is not known. Therefore, we conducted an intubation study simulating patients with cervical spine injury using three devices: a conventional Macintosh laryngoscope, a video laryngoscope (GlideScope), and a fiberoptic bronchoscope (MAF-TM). Success rates, intubation time, and complication rates were compared. METHODS: Nine physician experts in airway management participated in this study. Cervical immobilization was used to simulate

Difficult fiber-optic intubation in a patient with giant neck masses: The role of McCoy laryngoscope in elevating compressed laryngeal aperture.

Airway management in patients with giant neck masses is usually a challenge to anesthesiologists. A giant neck mass could compress the airway and thus impede endotracheal intubation. We encountered a situation where the giant neck masses of a patient pushed the epiglottis posteriorly toward the posterior pharyngeal wall and compressed the laryngeal aperture narrowing after anesthetic induction, causing direct laryngoscopic intubation and sequential fiber-optic intubation failed. The neck masses twisted the aryepiglottic fold tortuously and clogged the laryngeal aperture tightly, making a flexi

[Determination of the distance between the upper incisors and the laryngoscope blade during laryngoscopy: comparisons of the McCoy, the Macintosh, the Miller, and the Belscope blades].

We compared the distance between the upper central incisors and the laryngoscope blade with the four different types of laryngoscope blade (McCoy, Macintosh, Miller, Belscope). Twenty-three patients scheduled for general anesthesia were studied. The tooth-blade distance was measured when optimum visibility of the glottis was obtained. The visibility was determined according to the Cormack and Lehane grading. The distance with the McCoy and the Belscope was greater than that with the Macintosh or the Miller. The visibility grade was significantly worse with the Macintosh than with the other typ

An automatic laryngoscopic image segmentation system based on SAM prompt engineering: from glottis annotation to vocal fold segmentation.

INTRODUCTION: Laryngeal high-speed video (HSV) is a widely used technique for diagnosing laryngeal diseases. Among various analytical approaches, segmentation of glottis regions has proven effective in evaluating vocal fold vibration patterns and detecting related disorders. However, the specific task of vocal fold segmentation remains underexplored in the literature. METHODS: In this study, we propose a novel automatic vocal fold segmentation system that relies solely on glottis information. The system leverages prompt engineering techniques tailored for the Segment Anything Model (SAM). Spe
