Therapeutic potential of intranasal photobiomodulation therapy for neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders: a narrative review.

The application of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) for neuronal stimulation is studied in different animal models and in humans, and has shown to improve cerebral metabolic activity and blood flow, and provide neuroprotection via anti-inflammatory and antioxidant pathways. Recently, intranasal PBMT (i-PBMT) has become an attractive and potential method for the treatment of brain conditions. Herein, we provide a summary of different intranasal light delivery approaches including a nostril-based portable method and implanted deep-nasal methods for the effective systemic or direct irradiation o

Effect of photobiomodulation therapy on radiodermatitis in a mouse model: an experimental animal study.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of photobiomodulation (PBM) for prevention of radiodermatitis in an irradiated mouse model and compare the efficacy of PBM using 633- or 830-nm wavelengths. Irradiated mice were randomly distributed into three groups: A (633 nm), B (830 nm), and C (without PBM). On post-irradiation days 7 and 21, we compared acute damage and recovery in treated skin samples to non-irradiated skin using H&E, Masson's trichrome, anti-CD45 and PCNA immunohistochemistry, and a TUNEL assay. Grade 3 radiodermatitis was evident only in group C. Compared with that in group C, th

Is photobiomodulation therapy effective in reducing pain caused by toxicities related to head and neck cancer treatment? A systematic review.

Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) has been considered an effective method for preventing and managing certain cancer-related toxicities in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, the potential effects of PBMT on pain control and analgesia resulting from these toxicities is still controversial. The aim of this systematic review was to compile available evidence of the effects of PMBT on pain control and reduced use of analgesics in HNC patients. We searched three indexed databases: MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, and Scopus. The databases were reviewed u

The long-term effect of pulsed dye laser on Necrobiosis Lipoidica: A case study.

A 57-year-old female was presented with an irrepressible case of Necrobiosis Lipoidica considering the possibility of a surgical skin graft. Instead, a pulsed dye laser treatment was used as an alternate treatment. Previous case studies have been found in the literature on the effect of pulsed dye laser on Necrobiosis Lipoidica. The use of a pulsed dye laser in this case resulted in rendering the lesions asymptomatic for pain and a reduction in volume. Prolonged control was exhibited. From this case, we conclude that pulsed dye laser therapy is effective when increasing the number of treatment

Generalized eczematous reaction after fractional carbon dioxide laser therapy for tattoo allergy.

Allergic tattoo reactions form a therapeutically difficult entity. Treatment with conventional quality-switched lasers does not completely remove the allergenic particles and may lead to generalized hypersensitivity reactions. Recently, ablative fractional laser therapy was introduced as a treatment for allergic tattoo removal. We present two cases of allergic reactions to red tattoo ink treated with 10,600-nm fractional CO2 laser. At the end of treatment, almost complete removal of red ink accompanied by a significant reduction of symptoms was observed in the first patient, whereas the second

A dystrophic calcinosis cutis case treated with CO2 laser.

Calcinosis cutis is the deposition of insoluble calcium salts within cutaneous tissue. It may be divided into four major subtypes: dystrophic, metastatic, idiopathic, and iatrogenic. The most common subtype is dystrophic calcinosis cutis. It can occur as a result of local tissue injury. We herein present a child with dystrophic calcinosis cutis developed following trauma and successfully treated with CO2 laser.

Anti-Inflammatory effects of low-level laser therapy (660 nm) in the early phase in carrageenan-induced pleurisy in rat.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: In the classic model of pleurisy there is little evidence about the anti-inflammatory effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) as well the dosage characteristics, such as wavelength, total energy, number and pattern of treatment. In this study we investigated the potential effects of LLLT on modulating the pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators of acute inflammation in a rat pleurisy model. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: A sample of 48 female Wistar rats were divided into control and experiential groups. An inflammation was induced by carrageenan (0.2
