OBJECTIVES: Limited data exist on the clinical associations and responsiveness of myositis core set measures (CSMs) and response criteria us … mental health (MCS) with all CSMs and TIS. A mixed linear model examined longitudinal association. Minimal clinically important difference (MCID) was determined using the anchor method.
RESULTS: The study included 105 IIM patients. Most SF-36 domains showed moderate to strong correlations with all CSMs at baseline as well as 6-month changes (delta change), except CK levels at baseline …

BACKGROUND: Sézary syndrome (SS) and mycosis fungoides (MF), 2 types of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, cause significant morbidity and adversely affect patients' quality of life (QoL). The present study assessed the QoL measurement changes in patients receiving mogamulizumab versus vorinostat.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A multicenter phase III trial was conducted of patients with stage IB-IV MF/SS with ≥ 1 failed systemic therapy. The QoL measures included Skindex-29 and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General. The symptoms, function, and QoL subdomains were longitudinally modeled using mi

BACKGROUND: Periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is a well-recognized procedure for the treatment of hip dysplasia in young adults and can be used for the surgical management of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) with acetabular retroversion. The aim of this study was to use a national database to assess the outcomes of PAO for developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and for FAI.
METHODS: All patients in whom an isolated PAO had been performed between January 2012 and February 2019 were identified in the Non-Arthroplasty Hip Registry (NAHR). Their outcomes were assessed using the EuroQol-5 Dimensi

BACKGROUND: Studies on the effect of partial- and full-thickness chondral damage of the hip on outcomes and the ability to achieve meaningful clinical outcomes are limited.
PURPOSE: To determine the effect of full- and partial-thickness chondral injuries on 2-year outcomes in patients undergoing hip arthroscopic surgery for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) compared with patients without chondral damage, and to identify significant predictors of achieving the patient acceptable symptomatic state (PASS) and minimal clinically important difference (MCID).

BACKGROUND: European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) and breast cancer–specific quality-of-life questionnaire (QLQ-BR23) are widely used in clinical trials, but information on minimal important differences (MIDs) remain limited. METHODS: Data were obtained from the RESQ trial, a phase 3 study conducted in Japan. A total of 302 patients with HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer were randomized to receive eribulin or S-1. QLQ-C30 and QLQ-BR23 were administered every six weeks until week 24 and every nine weeks until week 4

BACKGROUND: Patient-focused outcomes present a central need for trial-readiness across all ataxias. The Activities of Daily Living part of the Friedreich Ataxia Rating Scale (FARS-ADL) captures functional impairment and longitudinal change but is only validated in Friedreich Ataxia.
OBJECTIVE: Validation of FARS-ADL regarding disease severity and patient-meaningful impairment, and its sensitivity to change across genetic ataxias.
METHODS: Real-world registry data of FARS-ADL in 298 ataxia patients across genotypes were analyzed, including (1) cross-correlation with FARS-stage, Scale for the

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the rate of achievement of the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) in patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and satisfaction between cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) patients with and without class III obesity who underwent surgery.

Patients were dichotomized based on whether or not they were obese (class III, BMI ≥ 35 kg/m2). PROs including visual analog scale (VAS) neck and arm pain, Neck Disability Ind…

BACKGROUND: Indications for reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) are expanding, and more young patients are undergoing RTSA. Younger patients are expected to place increased functional demands on their shoulder, which may affect implant performance and longevity. Reports on longer-term outcomes in young patients remain limited. This study evaluates the minimum 5-year functional outcomes of RTSA in patients younger than 65 years.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed using a multinational prospective shoulder arthroplasty database of a single implant system, Exactech Equinoxe (Ga

PURPOSE: To investigate the relationship between lumbar facet fluid and dynamic instability in degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS), as well as the relationship between facet fluid and patient-reported outcomes following a posterior lumbar fusion.
METHODS: We analyzed consecutive patients with degenerative spondylolisthesis undergoing single level posterior lumbar fusion from December 2010 to January 2013 at a single academic institution. We investigated the relationship between fluid in the facet joint as measured on axial MRI and the presence of dynamic instability. We investigated the impac

OBJECTIVE: A statistically significant improvement in nasal obstruction ratings following septoplasty is not necessarily clinically important. This study aimed to establish useful measures of septoplasty success, namely the minimal clinically important difference and the desirable clinically important difference.
METHODS: Patients rated nasal obstruction on a 0-100 visual analogue scale pre-operatively and at 5.5 months post-operatively. Global outcome rating (completely, much, or somewhat improved, unchanged or worse) served as the anchor post-operatively. Minimal clinically important differ…

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to determine the time frame of clinical improvement in patient-reported outcomes (PROs) following surgical decompression for cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). Based on previously published 12-month data from this group, the authors hypothesized that the average time to minimal clinically important difference (MCID) improvement would primarily occur by 3 months postoperatively regardless of preoperative myelopathy severity. They also hypothesized that there would be minimal additional improvement between 3 months and 5 years after surgery.

BACKGROUND: The EuroQol-5 Dimensions-5 Levels (EQ-5D) is a concise, validated patient-reported outcome measure that captures health status from the patient perspective across five core domains. Its simplicity, reliability, and applicability to health-economic evaluation make it particularly suitable for assessing postoperative health-related quality of life in older adults with adult spinal deformity (ASD). The minimum clinically important difference (MCID) represents improvements from baseline status that are clinically notable. This study aimed to identify factors associated with achieving M

INTRODUCTION: Validated clinical scales for cervical myelopathy (CM) assess disease severity and treatment efficacy, but often fail to capture the patient's subjective perception of treatment effects. This study aimed to correlate commonly used clinical scales for CM with patient-perceived outcomes after surgical treatment. Additionally, it sought to establish minimum clinically important difference (MCID) thresholds for scales strongly correlating with patient perception.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A prospective, single-center observational study followed 47 patients with degenerative CM who unde
