Twenty-four patients with cutaneous ureterostomy at least 6 months after surgery were included in this study. Single-J ureteral catheters were indwelt in 7 patients. RATIONALE: Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGPN) is a form of chronic pyelonephritis caused by chronic calculus obstruction and bacterial infection, leading to the destruction of the renal parenchyma and calyces. Conservative treatment is usually not sufficient, and surgical intervention is still the main curative approach. XGPN with transdiaphragmatic extension and lung abscess formation is a rare condition.

This survey is based on data for 245 903 isolates reported by Public Health Network laboratories in 1983. Facultatively pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria comprised two-third of the isolates, and--except Escherichia coli--were resistant in a high percent to the most frequently used antibiotics. OBJECTIVES: Phenotypical Extended Spectrum β-Lactamase (ESBL)-production is commonly determined using the combination disk diffusion test or gradient test. This requires overnight incubation, prolonging time-to-detection and increasing duration of empirical treatment for patients with infections caused by gram-negative bacteria. Encrustation and blockage of indwelling urethral catheters is primarily brought about by infection of the urinary tract by Proteus mirabilis or other urease-producing species. The bacteria colonise the catheter forming a biofilm community within a polysaccharide matrix. The prevalence of foodborne diseases has raised concerns due to the potential transmission of zoonotic bacterial pathogens through meat products. The objective of this study was to determine the occurrence and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiles of pathogenic bacteria in cooked donkey meat products from Beijing. Twenty-one cooked donkey meat samples were collected from different delis, subjected to homogenization, and analyzed for bacterial contamination.
