INTRODUCTION: Congenital amusia is a specific condition in which the individual is unable to recognise tonal variations in a piece of musical. This cannot be explained by a previous brain injury, hearing loss, cognitive deficit, socio-affective disorder or lack of environmental stimulation. The current estimated prevalence is 1.5% of the world population, with a significant genetic component among those who suffer from it. It has been claimed that certain cognitive abilities in the emotional, spatial and language fields may be affected in people with amusia.

BACKGROUND: Patients with Rett syndrome (RTT) present characteristic regression in communication and hand skills, which eventually leads to intellectual and physical disability. Moreover, caregivers of patients with RTT face stressors related to patients' medical and developmental concerns. A 67-year-old woman was hospitalized for rehabilitation from the after effects of a traumatic brain injury. In addition to memory impairment, attention disorder, and executive dysfunction, she experienced musical hallucinations. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed cerebral contusion in the bilateral temporal lobes and the left frontal lobe. Case reports of musical hallucinations caused by traumatic brain injury are extremely rare.

BACKGROUND: Music therapy as an adjunct to treatment is rarely used in perinatology and obstetrics, despite the proven therapeutic effect. Auditory stimulation through music positively impacts the health of adults and infants, its special role being observed in the development of prematurely born neonates. The current study investigated the prevalence of multiple risk behaviors in popular music lyrics as well as the contexts within which they occur. We conducted a content analysis of the top 20 Billboard songs from 2009 to 2013 in the genres of rap, country, adult contemporary, rock, R&B/hip-hop, and pop, coding for the presence of alcohol, marijuana, nonmarijuana drugs, and sex as well as the contexts intoxication, binging/addiction, partying/socializing, disregard for consequences, and emotional states. The contexts relationship status and degradation were also coded for when sex was present.

Hallucinations are common among patients with Parkinson disease (PD). Hallucinations, typically transitory and occurring at night, are classically visual and occur in 30% of treated patients; auditory hallucinations are rare. A musical hallucination (MH) is a rare type of complex auditory hallucination reported in only six PD patients so far. To the best of our knowledge, we present the first reported case of a patient with Parkinson disease who experienced auditory and visual MH.

OBJECTIVES: Here, we evaluate the risks of amplified music for disc-jockeys (DJs) working in nightclubs.
DESIGN: Sound level measurements were performed within the DJ mixing booths. A questionnaire was used to obtain exposure to noise and length of time in the profession. Audiograms and tinnitus pitch matching was also performed.
RESULTS: The DJs' audiograms showed the expected noise-induced hearing loss at 6 KHz, but also low frequency losses at 125-500 Hz. Three quarters of them have tinnitus with a frequency corresponding to hearing loss.

Aerobics becomes an at-risk activity for noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) when high intensity music is played in its classes. Attempts to reduce this risk through hearing conservation have generally failed, possibly because participants find the high intensity music enjoyable and motivating, and therefore not "too loud". A bilingual virtuoso piano teacher developed aphasia and amusia, probably due to cerebral embolism.
