Urine protein electrophoresis is often required for diagnosis and monitoring of urological or renal diseases and lymphoid hemopathies. We here report an uncommon urine protein electrophoresis result. Rhabdomyolysis is characterised by muscle breakdown and the release of myoglobin. It is a potentially serious condition that can lead to acute kidney injury (AKI). Factors, such as ischemia, trauma, muscle compression and drug toxicity, can trigger muscle breakdown. To test the specificity of this finding, urine specimens were analyzed from 39 patients with provisional diagnosis of myocardial infarction by means of a hemagglutination-inhibition technique with prepared antisera to monkey myoglobin.
