[Nasal sinus metastasis of renal carcinoma. A case report].

Renal cell carcinoma is the primary neoplasm which most frequently metastasizes in the nasosinusal region. We present a case of a 51-year-old man who was nephrectomized for a renal cell carcinoma. A year later, he presented a left nasosinusal lesion. The biopsy was conclusive for renal cell metastasis. A paralateronasal and bicoronal approach was used. Currently, 6 years later the patient is free of local disease, but he presents cutaneous metastasis. Renal cell nasosinusal metastasis is found in a context of disseminated disease. Symptoms are unspecific, but the epistaxis constitutes the most

Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma With Late Metastasis to the Submandibular Gland: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Metastasis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) to the head and neck region is rare, accounting for approximately 8%-14% of all RCC metastases. The thyroid gland is the most common site of metastasis in this region. However, RCC is known for its ability to metastasize to unusual anatomical sites, including the salivary glands. Approximately 0.1% of metastatic salivary gland neoplasms originate from renal malignancies, and the parotid gland is the most frequently involved site. Metastases to the submandibular and sublingual glands are considerably less common. In this report, we present a 62-year-old

Scapular metastasis from acinic cell carcinoma of parotid gland: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Acinic cell carcinoma (ACC) is a malignant epithelial neoplasm that commonly occurs in the parotid gland. It is known to have a high recurrence rate and the potential to metastasize to the lung or cervical lymph nodes. However, few cases of ACC with bone metastasis have been reported in the medical literature. CASE SUMMARY: The clinical significance of this case report lies in the unique site of occurrence of the metastasis: To the best of our knowledge, this report is the only literature documenting ACC arising in a shoulder mass. CONCLUSION: Unusual presentations of uncommon ma

Cystic brain metastases radiologically simulating neurocysticercosis.

CONTEXT: Brain metastases are common complications of cancer. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the main diagnostic imaging method in these cases, rarely shows cystic images. CASE REPORT: The patient was a 45-year-old woman who had had severe headache for a month that was refractory to medication, and had previously had breast cancer, which had been treated. The MRI showed the criteria for neurocysticercosis. Since there was no improvement with clinical treatment, we chose to excise the lesions. Histopathological analysis showed an epithelioid malignant neoplasm. CONCLUSION: From immunohisto

An unusual testicular metastasis from transitional cell carcinoma of the ureter: a case report.

Testicular tumor metastasis from transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the ureter is very rare. Herein, we report a case who presented with a palpable mass of left testis, after he underwent radical nephroureterectomy and bladder cuff excision and adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy for the TCC of left ureter tumor for 5 months. We performed left radical orchiectomy and histology revealed a TCC identical to the original ureteral tumor. In a review of the literature, we found this case was the second case of metastatic testicular tumor from the ureteral TCC. In patients presenting the symptom

Unexpected Metastasis of Primary Colonic Adenocarcinoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Colorectal cancer is a common cancer worldwide. The major sites of colorectal cancer metastasis are the liver, lungs, peritoneum, lymph nodes, and bones. However, secondary localization in the bladder is extremely rare. Herein, we present the case of a 36-year-old patient who underwent surgery for colonic adenocarcinoma. Subsequently, the patient presented total hematuria during adjuvant chemotherapy. Cystoscopy and biopsy identified a bladder metastasis. In our discussion, we aim to delve into the distinct characteristics of bladder metastases originating from digestive neoplasms.

Simultaneous laparoscopic liver metastasectomy and intersphincteric resection for neuroendocrine tumor of the rectum by natural orifice specimen extraction surgery.

Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are relatively uncommon rectal neoplasms, and the liver is the most common site of distant metastasis. Simultaneous liver and colorectal resections by minimally invasive surgery and natural orifice specimen extraction are gaining popularity, reducing morbidity. We describe a case of rectal NET with liver metastasis operated simultaneously by laparoscopy with both specimens extracted via the anal canal. Transanal or transvaginal natural orifice specimen extraction surgery for suitable cases is underutilized and only isolated case reports for simultaneous resections e

Neoplastic Parkinsonism: An illustrative case report.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of T-cell types are rare neoplasms. Central nervous system metastasis is unusual. We are reporting a patient with peripheral T-cell lymphoma unspecified who had extra nodal metastasis into the brain that manifested with extrapyramidal dysfunction. The clinical presentation was exceptional in that the course was indolent and patient had no overt extra neural manifestations of malignancy for nearly 3 years after the onset of Parkinsonism. Striking brain imaging late in the disease supported by pathological findings enabled the diagnosis of this rare condition.

Metastatic thymoma of the breast.

Breast metastasis from nonmammary malignant neoplasms is uncommon, and it accounts for approximately 2% of all breast tumors. Distant metastasis of thymoma is very rare, and especially to extrathorcic areas. We report a female who had a metastatic thymoma in her breast 20 years after undergoing resection for a non-invasive thymoma. She presented with a palpable mass in her left breast. Mammography and ultrasonogram showed a lobular mass at the anterior glandular portion. Histological examination after surgical excision revealed a metastatic thymoma.

A rare cystic and papillary variant of acinar cell carcinoma with liver metastasis and molecular analysis.

Acinar cell carcinoma (ACC) is a pancreatic neoplasm with histologic variants that pose significant diagnostic challenges. We report a 75-year-old man with a previously unreported cystic and papillary ACC metastatic to the liver. Histologically, the tumor exhibited cystic and papillary proliferations of epithelial cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm, prominent nucleoli, and frequent mitoses. Immunohistochemical analysis showed positivity for trypsin and BCL-10, confirming ACC. The cyst lining displayed both acinar and ductal features, suggesting origin from acinar cystic transformation with acin

Eyelid atypical fibroxanthoma: a rare challenging entity.

Atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) is a rare neoplasm, with a limited number of cases reported in the periocular region. In this case report, we detail a 63-year-old woman who presented with a polypoid, exophytic lesion on her right upper eyelid that had been progressing for a year. The lesion was meticulously excised with security margins and reconstructed using a glabellar flap. Following a thorough microscopic and immunohistochemical analysis, AFX was diagnosed. Despite its sometimes clinical and histological benign appearance, AFX is classified as a malignant neoplasm; however, it carries an exc

Giant hepatic metastasis from gastrointestinal stromal tumor of the rectum 12 years after surgery.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are non-epithelial neoplasms that arise from the gastrointestinal tract. Their variable cytologic atypia makes it difficult to predict their prognosis. We report a case of right hepatectomy for a giant metastasis detected 12 years after the surgical treatment of a rectal neoplasm, histologically demonstrated as a low-grade leiomyosarcoma initially, having morphological and immunohistochemical features of low malignancy. Histological examination of the hepatic metastases demonstrated that the tumors were composed of spindle cells similar to those in the rectal ne

Multiple distant metastases of hepatocellular carcinoma to the oral cavity.

We describe the palliative therapy for multiple metachronous oral metastases of hepatocellular carcinoma in a 72-year-old patient with emphasis on maintaining oral functions by local debulking procedures in due consideration of the dissemination of the neoplasm to multiple organs. The first oral metastasis was the first evidence of multiple tumor spread after partial hepatectomy. Palliative chemotherapy with sorafenib was cancelled after three weeks due to tumor progression and hemiplegia following brain metastasis and stroke. Periodical screening of the patient for oral findings allowed the n

[Secondary neoplasms of the larynx from a colonic adenocarcinoma].

Secondary neoplasms of the larynx are rare and account for 0.09-0,4% of all laryngeal tumours. Cutaneous melanomas are the preponderant primaries metastasizing to the larynx, followed by renal cell carcinomas, breast and lung carcinomas. Colonic adenocarcinoma metastases to the larynx are extremely rare. Tumours spreading to the larynx may be asymptomatic or may result in hoarseness, stridor or airway obstruction. Patients with metastasis of colonic adenocarcinoma to the larynx usually present with disseminated disease. We present a case of an isolated laryngeal metastasis from a colonic adeno

Laparoscopic resection of duodenal gangliocytic paraganglioma. A case report.

Paraganglioma is an exceedingly rare tumour of the duodenum that arises in close proximity to the ampulla of Vater. To date a total of 133 cases of duodenal paraganglioma have been reported in the literature; of these, 27 (20%) were histologically gangliocytic paragangliomas. This neoplasm generally behaves in a benign fashion, although instances of recurrence and/or lymph node metastasis have been described. The treatment consists in endoscopic polypectomy or surgical resection in relation to the histological features and the macroscopic extent of the neoplasm. We present a case of a benign d

Solitary fibrous tumor of parotid gland: a case report and short review of literature.

OBJECTIVE: This case report represents a solitary fibrous tumor, which is a very rare neoplasm in the parotid gland. CASE PRESENTATION: 80-year-old Caucasian female patient with palpable, immobile, painless, slow growing, semi-rigid-elastic neoplasm in the left parotid gland, that was existing for four months. There were no signs of inflammation and facial paralysis. The tumor was initially interpreted as a salivary gland neoplasm of uncertain origin. Fine needle aspiration was performed 2 times; however, the precise diagnosis was challenging. The tumor was excised, regional lymphadenectomy w

Metastatic epithelioid sarcoma to the brain: palisaded necrosis mimicking glioblastoma multiforme.

Epithelioid sarcomas are rare, morphologically distinct tumors that have a propensity to arise in the extremities. Brain metastasis from epithelioid sarcoma are a relatively rare occurrence. We report a case of brain metastasis in a 50-year-old man who was previously diagnosed with an epithelioid sarcoma arising in the elbow. Before the diagnosis of brain metastasis, he had developed an axillary lymph node metastasis. He presented with neurologic symptoms of progressively worsening headache and loss of vision on the right side. He underwent gross total resection of an occipital lobe mass. Hist

p27(kip1) protein expression correlates with survival in myxoid and round-cell liposarcoma.

PURPOSE: The p27(kip1) protein (p27) is a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor that has been shown to be an independent prognostic factor in a variety of human neoplasms. Low expression of p27 tends to occur in more aggressive neoplasms. The role of p27 as an independent prognostic factor in the spectrum of myxoid and round-cell liposarcomas has not been examined. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-seven cases of myxoid and round-cell liposarcomas were examined. Clinicopathologic features and immunohistochemical expression of p27 and Ki-67 antigen were studied in all cases. Survival analysis was perfo

Disseminated pheochromocytoma in a North American river otter (Lontra canadensis).

A 21-yr-old male North American river otter (Lontra canadensis) with a chronic history of degenerative osteoarthritis was evaluated for acute posterior paralysis. Because no definitive cause was identified and a poor prognosis was expected, the otter was euthanatized. A malignant neoplasm of adrenal gland origin with disseminated metastases to the central nervous system, lymph nodes, diaphragm, pancreas, spleen, and liver was diagnosed on postmortem examination. No clinical signs of disseminated neoplasia had been noted throughout the otter's history. The adrenal neoplasm was composed of nests
