Between 1952 and 1976, 760 men with testicular tumours were seen at The Royal Marsden Hospital. Of this group 21 (2.75%) developed tumours of the contralateral testis, in 2 instances synchronously and in the remaining 19 at intervals from 4 months to 15 years. Of 15 men in whom adequate history has been obtained, 7 (46%) had a history of maldescent and in all 7 patients the pathology of both tumours showed the same histological subtype. Hemangiopericytoma is a vascular tumor arising from contractile cells, the pericyte of Zimmermann. The neoplasms most frequently involve deep musculature; however, 16% occur in the head and neck region. A 50-year-old Japanese woman with Mayer-Rokitansky-Kustner-Hauser syndrome and two pelvic tumors underwent laparotomy. Laparotomy revealed that no torsion of the right ovarian tumor had occurred, with uterine leiomyoma originating from the right side of a rudimentary uterus. Histopathological examination demonstrated leiomyoma of the rudimentary uterus with positive staining for estrogen and progesterone receptors, and mucinous cyst adenoma of the right ovary. Uterine leiomyoma is rare in this syndrome and the present report represents the first published case complicated by ovarian tumor.

Meningiomas are tumours arising from the meninges that ensheath the central nervous system. They are benign tumours, but can very rarely metastasize. We report a case of pulmonary meningioma diagnosed incidentally with concurrent brain masses in an ex-smoker and discuss the difficulties in surgical decision making in a mass that may have represented lung cancer with brain metastases. We also review the literature reporting pulmonary meningiomas.

We report a 71-year-old man with rectal carcinoid accompanying carcinomas of the esophagus and ureter. These were synchronous triple cancers clinically diagnosable and curable. Pathohistologically, positive granules were observed upon Grimelius and Masson-Fontana staining. Although primary malignant melanomas of the skin or eye alone are not too rare, their coincidence is most uncommon. The case of a 41-year-old Caucasian male is reported who developed superficially spreading melanoma on the skin of his trunk 9 years after the enucleation of his right eye because of a fusiform melanoma of the choroidal membrane. Staging revealed a further malignancy: hemangiopericytoma inside and adjacent to the left psoas muscle. Both theoretical and practical conclusions to be drawn from the case are discussed.
