Bladder schwannoma is a rare tumour arising from Schwann cells in nerve sheaths. It is usually more common in patients diagnosed with neurofibromatosis. However, isolated cases of urinary bladder schwannoma is incredibly rare, attributing to <0.1% of bladder tumours. A literature review and analysis revealed that it presents in adulthood, is mostly symptomatic and diagnosis is established histologically. We report a case of isolated bladder schwannoma in 25 year-old female who presented with dyspareunia.

OBJECTIVE: Clinically validated biomarkers for neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1), neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2), and schwannomatosis (SWN) have not been identified to date. The biomarker working group's goals are to (1) define biomarker needs in NF1, NF2, and SWN; (2) summarize existing data on biomarkers in NF1, NF2, and SWN; (3) outline recommendations for sample collection and biomarker development; and (4) standardize sample collection and methodology protocols where possible to promote comparison between studies by publishing standard operating procedures (SOPs).
METHODS: The biomarker group reviewe

BACKGROUND: Neurofibromatosis 1 is one of the most common genetic diseases in humans, presenting with multiple neurofibromas and an increased risk of various benign and malignant tumors, including breast cancer.
CASE PRESENTATION: In this paper we report a case of a woman with neurofibromatosis 1 and the challenge associated with detecting an advanced breast cancer because of numerous skin neurofibromas, which were responsible for a substantial delay in cancer diagnosis. Literature concerning the association of neurofibromatosis 1 and breast cancer is reviewed and discussed.
CONCLUSIONS: Bes

UNLABELLED: Schwannomatosis has been recently recognized as the third major type of neurofibromatosis. It causes multiple schwannomas without the vestibular tumors that are diagnostic of neurofibromatosis type 2. Schwannoma is rarely found in the foot, and it is still rarer to find multiple schawannomas in a single peripheral nerve on the foot. In this article, we describe a case of schwannomatosis case on a single foot.
LEVELS OF EVIDENCE: Case report, Level IV.

Neurofibromatosis of the urinary tract occurs infrequently: fewer than 70 cases with bladder involvement have been reported to date and of these, only 25 cases occurred in the pediatric population. We describe an unusual case of plexiform neurofibroma and diffuse ganglioneuromatosis of the bladder in a small infant, diagnosed with neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) at 3 months of age. At the moment, there are no established criteria for the treatment of this rare lesion. Due to the high morbidity, although not very common, bladder involvement should be considered in infants with NF1.

OBJECTIVE: Neurofibromatosis (NF)-related benign tumors such as plexiform neurofibromas (PN) and vestibular schwannomas (VS) can cause substantial morbidity. Clinical trials directed at these tumors have become available. Due to differences in disease manifestations and the natural history of NF-related tumors, response criteria used for solid cancers (1-dimensional/RECIST [Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors] and bidimensional/World Health Organization) have limited applicability. No standardized response criteria for benign NF tumors exist. The goal of the Tumor Measurement Working

Segmental neurofibromatosis (SNF) is an uncommon variant of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) that is characterized by café au lait spots, freckles, and/or neurofibromas limited to a body segment. In this report we describe 3 adult patients with SNF who presented with only neurofibromas. Although 2 patients had no systemic involvement, the third patient had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a cardiologic abnormality that is associated with neurofibromatosis.

We describe an unusual case involving the simultaneous occurrence of segmental neurofibromatosis (Type V NF) in a patient with a large nevus sebaceus of Jadassohn in the same physical distribution. Causative mechanisms of development of these 2 genetic disorders have not been definitively linked. Factors producing these diseases probably involve similar tissues at the same point in development because both have been reported in association with central nervous system anomalies and have been classified among the neurocutaneous syndromes. This is a case of a nevus sebaceus occurring in associati

A 25-year-old woman with neurofibromatosis was admitted to our hospital for evaluation of hypertension. When she was 6 years old, she was diagnosed as having neurofibromatosis and XXX syndrome because of multiple café-au-lait spots, neurofibromas of the skin and mental retardation. Chromosome analysis revealed that her karyotype was 46, XX/47, XXX. Renal arteriography disclosed aneurysmal change and stenosis of the right renal artery. After right-side nephrectomy and aneurysmectomy, the kidney was autotransplanted in the left iliac fossa. Surgical procedure resulted in marked amelioration of t

A 17-year-old male with neurofibromatosis presented with severe hypertension secondary to an abdominal aortic coarctation and bilateral renal artery stenoses. Despite previous surgical bypass grafts and aggressive medical management, including treatment with diuretics, beta-blocker, calcium channel blocker, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, and direct vasodilator agents, severe hypertension persisted. Following intravascular stent placement in the aorta and both renal arteries, blood pressures normalized.

Although not as common as solitary lesions, multiple schwannomas do occur, even in single nerve lesions. We report a rare case of a 47-year-old female patient who presented with multiple schwannomas with inter-fascicular invasion in the ulnar nerve above the cubital tunnel. Preoperative MRI revealed a 10-cm multilobulated tubular mass along the ulnar nerve above the elbow joint. During excision under 4.5° loupe magnification, we separated three ovoid yellow-colored neurogenic tumors of different sizes, but there were still remaining lesions as it was difficult to completely separate lesions fr

OBJECTIVES: To compare MRI features of sporadic and neurofibromatosis syndrome-related localized schwannomas and neurofibromas.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, our pathology database was searched for "neurofibroma" or "schwannoma" from 2014 to 2019. Exclusion criteria were lack of available MRI and intradural or plexiform tumors. Qualitative and quantitative anatomic (location, size, relationship to nerve, signal, muscle denervation) and functional (arterial enhancement, apparent diffusion-weighted coefficient) MRI features of sporadic and syndrome-related tumors were compared. Statisti

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the role of weekly neurofibromatosis (NF) multi-disciplinary conferences (MDC) on the diagnostic and therapeutic plan for patients with NF type 1 (NF1) and schwannomatosis (SWN).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study reviewed patients with confirmed or suspected NF1 and SWN discussed in weekly MDC from March to July 2021. Demographic data collected included patient age, sex, pre-conference and post-conference diagnosis, radiological studies reviewed, and provider specialties in attendance. Outcomes reported included changes in imaging interpretation and treatm
