INTRODUCTION: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are frequently co-administered with glucocorticoids (GCs) in cancer treatment, yet the potential drug-drug interactions (DDIs) between these drug classes remains incompletely characterized. This study aimed to identify adverse event reporting patterns suggestive of potential interactions between ICIs and GCs.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective pharmacovigilance analysis of Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2024. After deduplication, 14,357,295 unique reports were includ

BACKGROUND: Feeding disorders occur commonly in the pediatric population and vary in severity from picky eating to extreme food selectivity. The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision provide more inclusive diagnostic criteria for feeding disorders, but little is known about the actual referral population to an outpatient feeding clinic. In this investigation, the nutrition status, reason for referral, and related exploratory questions of outpatient referrals are detailed.

Intestinal motility disorders represent a frequent problem in children with neurological impairment. These conditions are characterized by abnormal movements of the gut, which can result in symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, reflux, and vomiting. The underlying mechanisms leading to dysmotility are various, and the clinical manifestations are often nonspecific. Nutritional management is an important aspect of care for children with gut dysmotility, as it can help to improve their quality of life. Oral feeding, when safe and in the absence of risk of ingestion or severe dysphagia, should

The enlarged parotid glands seen in both poor nutritional states and in women with amenorrhea have always been considered to be separate entities. Thirteen observations are reported of a syndrome consisting of dysorexia (or anorexia), swelling of the salivary glands (sialomegaly), and menstrual disturbances (hypomenorrhea or amenorrhea). This syndrome can be defined as a clinical entity combining the symptomatology of parotid enlargements due to poor nutrition and those caused by sex-hormone disorders. In the Dysorexia-Sialomegaly-Amenorrhea syndrome, the salivary gland swellings are due to po

Measurement of the serum concentration of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-l) is generally used as a screening investigation for disorders of the growth hormone (GH)/IGF-I axis in children and adolescents with short stature. IGF-I concentration is sensitive to short-term and chronic alterations in the nutritional state, and the interpretation of IGF-I measurements requires knowledge of the child's nutritional status. In this review, we summarize the effects of nutrition on the GH/IGF-I axis, and review the clinical implications of these interactions throughout childhood, both in under-nutriti

Attention is first called to the reasons underlying resort to hyperalimentation. Difficulties and complications for both parenteral and enteral techniques are then indicated. Stress is laid on the importance of reassessing the enteral route and the commonest formulas are indicated on the basis of the literature and personal experience. Finally, a procedure for artificial enteral feeding providing for the use of the precooked foods used in infancy is described.

Although amenorrhea is no longer a specific criterion required to make the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa (AN), the relationship between restrictive eating and menstrual status remains important in the diagnosis, treatment, and consequences for patients with eating disorders. Clinicians should understand the relationship between menstrual irregularities and malnutrition due to eating disorders, as it may be possible to intervene sooner if the diagnosis is made earlier. Treatment of AN (in those who are underweight) and atypical AN (in those who are not underweight) is aimed at cessation of rest

Nutritional interventions have beneficial effects on certain psychiatric disorder symptomatology and common physical health comorbidities. However, studies evaluating nutritional literacy in mental health professionals (MHP) are scarce. This study aimed to assess the across 52 countries. Surveys were distributed via colleagues and professional societies. Data were collected regarding self-reported general nutrition knowledge, nutrition education, learning opportunities, and the tendency to recommend food supplements or prescribe specific diets in clinical practice. In total, 1056 subjects part

In this article the general guidelines for a nutrition schedule and new developments in the field of parenteral nutrition are discussed. The present possibilities for parenteral nutrition do not imitate the normal physiologic diet completely. The most frequently used calculation of the energy expenditure is estimated by a formula using weight, height, and age and was developed in healthy persons. It does not always represent the real caloric demands of a patient. Complications, partly due to parenteral nutrition, are noted. In severely ill patients hyperglycaemia and liver function disorders a

The ever-increasing survival of premature and extremely low birth weight infants has posed a great challenge to neonatologists and nutritionists. While nutrient requirements are still being defined, there is a great need to continue to improve our strategies for providing effective nutrition for these infants. Similarly, postdischarge nutritional issues need to be addressed since catch-up growth does not always occur. In addition to fetal origins of adult diseases, especially cardiovascular disorders, diabetes and obesity, new data are emerging that postnatal growth alterations also affect the

Total parenteral nutrition is an important adjunct in the care of neonates with surgical disorders. Cholestasis is at present the most worrisome complication of this technique; it is difficult to treat and may progress to eventual cirrhosis and liver failure. This article reviews the pertinent clinical and nutritional data in a surgical patient with short bowel syndrome who developed parenteral nutrition-associated liver disease successfully treated with fish-oil based lipids.

Frailty and sarcopenia occur not only in whole-body but also oral and swallowing function. Presbyphagia is age-related decline of swallowing function in older adults. Oral frailty is age-related decline of oral function in older adults. Presbyphagia and oral frailty are not dysphagia but frailty of oral and swallowing function. Oral sarcopenia is defined as sarcopenia in muscles of the oral cavity. Sarcopenic dysphagia is characterized by swallowing difficulty resulting from a loss of mass and function in whole-body skeletal and swallowing muscles. Sarcopenic dysphagia is diagnosed using a 5-s

The relationship between the plane of nutrition in dry cows and heifers during late pregnancy on the one hand and health and milk production on the other is discussed. It is concluded from findings reported in the literature as well as from personal observations that when the animals are in normal condition, a plane of nutrition in excess of that required for maintenance plus from 5 to 10 kg. of milk will not enhance the milk yield but will increase the risk of milk fever, acetonaemia, digestive disorders, laminitis, udder problems and reproductive failure. Finally, suggestions are made regard

With rising rates of chronic diseases, obesity and metabolic disorders, there is an urgent need for more effective lifestyle interventions. An increasing recognition of how an individual's diet affects their disease susceptibility has highlighted the limitations of traditional one-size-fits-all dietary guidelines, which often fail to account for the considerable metabolic heterogeneity among individuals. Precision nutrition tailors dietary advice and nutritional prescriptions by considering a broad range of factors, including genetics, age, sex, phenotype, lifestyle, preferences, clinical hist

A positive stance towards nutrition support of the child with cancer assures potential for normal growth, development, and quality of life during extended oncologic treatment. Data from recent studies of children with cancer (advanced neuroblastoma, Wilms' tumor) demonstrate the importance of integrating nutrition staging, assessment, and support into treatment protocols. Patients with solid tumors and lymphomas who are malnourished at diagnosis have a poor outcome when compared to nourished counterparts. Enteral nutrition (intensive nutrition counseling and favorite, nutritious foods) is effe

We report the case of a leukemic child treated with chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition for three weeks, who developed a severe lactic acidosis. Clinical features included both digestive and neurological disorders associated with a moderate cardiovascular collapse. After elimination of a toxic, a neoplastic or a septic cause, a thiamin (or vitamin B1) deficiency was suspected because of the lack of vitamin supply to parenteral nutrition. Intravenous administration of thiamin rapidly controlled lactic and clinical features. The diagnosis was confirmed by a low plasmatic concentration of thiam

Pediatric patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease often suffer from malnutrition and growth failure. This is particularly true in pubertal children. Chronic insufficient nutrient intake is most often the cause of growth failure. Both parenteral nutrition and defined enteral formulas are available to rehabilitate patients with malnutrition and growth failure. Assessment of nutritional status and growth and the use of parenteral nutrition and defined enteral formulas to reverse malnutrition, growth failure, and inflammation in pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease are d

Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) can lead to complications, such as glucose metabolism disorders. While TPN is associated with impairments in intestinal function, the gut barrier and mucosal immunity, the relationship between the gut microbiome and TPN-related glucose metabolism disorders remains to be explored. In a cohort of 256 participants with type 2 intestinal failure, we show that parenteral nutrition providing >80% of total energy induces insulin resistance and a higher risk of complications. Using various male mouse models, we demonstrate that changes in Lactobacillaceae and indole-3-
