Impact and management of chemotherapy/radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting and the perceptual gap between oncologists/oncology nurses and patients: a cross-sectional multinational survey.

PURPOSE: Chemotherapy/radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV/RINV) can affect half of oncology patients, significantly impacting daily life. Nausea without vomiting has only recently been thought of as a condition in its own right. As such, the incidence of nausea is often underestimated. This survey investigated the incidence and impact of CINV/RINV in patients compared with estimations of physicians/oncology nurses to determine if there is a perceptual gap between healthcare professionals and patients. METHODS: An online research survey of physicians, oncology nurses and patients wa

Detection of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) in HPV-Associated Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Review of Diagnostic Approach and Its Importance for the Head and Neck Oncologist.

INTRODUCTION: Histopathologic assessment of surgical specimens imparts crucial information that is essential for diagnosis, treatment planning and prognostication for patients with Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OPSCC). This review explores the range of diagnostic techniques utilized to assess the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) status in OPSCC. It covers both traditional methods-such as p16 immunohistochemistry, HPV in situ hybridization, and DNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-and newer, evolving strategies including circulating HPV tumor DNA analysis and oral HPV DNA/mRNA PCR testing.

Qualitative study of oncologists' perceptions on the US Food and Drug Administration approval status and clinical practice guidelines and their impact on local practice patterns in India.

OBJECTIVE: How the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval status and international cancer care guidelines influence the practice of oncology in low-and-middle-income countries like India has not been studied so far. We aimed to study how oncologists in India perceive drug approval status and guideline recommendations for their own clinical practice. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The study followed qualitative research design, incorporating semistructured interviews. The participants were qualified medical oncologists in India representing a wide range of geographical regions, including East, …

Every urologist and oncologist should know about treating sexual and gender minority prostate cancer patients: translating research findings into clinical practice.

In 2016, the NIH designated sexual and gender minorities (SGM) a health disparity population. The next year, the American Society of Clinical Oncology highlighted the need to improve the suboptimal cancer and survivorship care received by SGM populations. There are currently no evidence-based training programs in culturally competent care of prostate cancer patients who are gay, bisexual and/or transgender. In this selective review, we summarize findings from the largest quantitative studies focused on sexual minority prostate cancer survivors and from 65 interviews with NIH staff, clinicians,

Primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma, classic Hodgkin lymphoma presenting in the mediastinum, and mediastinal gray zone lymphoma: what is the oncologist to do?

In recent years, an overlap in biologic and clinical features has been identified between classic Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL) and primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBL). Further strengthening this relationship is the identification of lymphomas with clinical and morphologic features transitional between the two, known as gray zone lymphomas (GZL). However, this diagnostic gray zone is not just of theoretical interest: it presents a practical problem, as the treatment approaches for CHL traditionally differ from those for aggressive B-cell lymphomas. This article reviews the treatment appr

Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Sarcopenia but Were Afraid to Ask: A Quick Guide for Radiation Oncologists (Impact of Sarcopenia in Radiotherapy: The AFRAID Project).

Sarcopenia (SP) is a syndrome characterized by age-associated loss of skeletal muscle mass and function. SP worsens both acute and late radiation-induced toxicity, prognosis, and quality of life. Myosteatosis is a pathological infiltration of muscle tissue by adipose tissue which often precedes SP and has a proven correlation with prognosis in cancer patients. Sarcopenic obesity is considered a "hidden form" of SP (due to large fat mass) and is independently related to higher mortality and worse complications after surgery and systemic treatments with worse prognostic impact compared to SP alo

Anxiety, depression and fear of cancer recurrence in uveal melanoma survivors and ophthalmologist/oncologist communication during survivorship in France - protocol of a prospective observational mixed-method study.

BACKGROUND: Quality of life (QoL) in patients undergoing surveillance for uveal melanoma (UM) can be affected by psychological sequelae. Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) may be acute especially when prognostication indicates an increased risk of metastatic recurrence. Communication with an ophthalmologist or oncologist can then play a key role in impacting QoL. METHODS: In this prospective study co-designed with patient's partners and using a mixed-method approach, 250 patients at high versus low risk of metastatic recurrence are recruited in a national UM reference centre in France. Timing of final oncologist visit and systemic treatment use near the end of life in pretreated patients with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer: a multinational cohort study.

BACKGROUND: In heavily pretreated patients with metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (mTNBC), further systemic therapy offers limited benefit and increased toxicity. Recognizing the end-of-life (EOL) phase in time helps avoid overtreatment and ensure goal-concordant care. This study analyzed the interval between the last oncologist visit and death in pretreated women with mTNBC, as well as systemic therapy status, palliative care involvement and related factors. METHODS: This multinational ambispective cohort study included women with mTNBC who received ≥2 lines of palliative systemic the

Integrated data mining and network pharmacology to explore the prescription patterns from a senior TCM oncologist's clinical practice in treating chemotherapy-induced hand-foot syndrome.

Hand-foot syndrome (HFS) is a common and refractory adverse effect of chemotherapy lacking specific therapeutic strategies currently. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has shown empirical efficacy in clinical HFS management. This study integrated data mining and network pharmacology to systematically elucidate the medication principles and molecular mechanisms underlying Professor Gang Xie's prescriptions for HFS. All medical records from Professor Xie's specialist clinic (January 2020 to March 2025) were retrospectively collected and standardized in Excel. Prescriptions were analyzed through
