Unlike most cases of combined orthodontic and endodontic therapy that have been reported, in this case endodontic treatment with calcium hydroxide-induced calcification was utilized prior to orthodontic treatment. A 14-yr-old female required orthodontic therapy due to anterior crowding. Preoperative periapical radiographs indicated that the maxillary right lateral incisor demonstrated advanced lateral root resorption of the distal surface. It was decided to use calcium hydroxide therapy to halt any further resorption prior to orthodontic movement. Approximately 1 yr was required to gain calcif

The aesthetic demands of teeth by the public have improved with the increase in the living standard. Orthodontics, which is a method of aesthetic dentistry, is becoming increasingly important. Orthodontic treatment mainly involves the application of orthodontic force to the teeth and guides the reconstruction of the periodontal tissue, thereby changing the position of the teeth at the occlusal bone. Orthodontic treatment can also improve the dental occlusion caused by dentition crowding and teeth mobility to achieve long-term stability of periodontal tissue. The number of patients with periodo…

This is a case report of a patient with a skeletal Class III malocclusion and maxillary arch length deficiency. The patient was treated without extraction or surgery by increasing the maxillary arch length. Protraction of the maxillary complex and A point was the result. Favorable growth of both the maxilla and the mandible resulted in a functional Class I occlusion and an improved skeletal relationship. [This case report was presented to the American Board of Orthodontics in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the certification process conducted by the Board.]

Lingual orthodontic appliances meet growing esthetic demands and are replacing traditional labial systems, yet they pose challenges to patie … ion outcomes to labial systems with proper case selection. Thus, we report the viability of lingual orthodontics as an esthetic alternative when patient motivation and individualized selection balance early adaptation challenges.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: The relationship between orthodontic treatment and upper airway morphology is increasingly recognized. Artificial intelligence (AI) now supports airway analysis, but traditional 3D U-Net models show limited accuracy, particularly in the laryngopharynx. This study proposes a deep learning model to accurately and efficiently extract 3D upper airway structures from CBCT scans, facilitating improved orthodontic monitoring.
METHODS: The 3D UX-Net was employed for airway segmentation. Biased pharyngeal interface information from the network output enabled precise localization

Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) is a biologically driven process resulting from the mechanically induced remodeling of the periodontal ligament (PDL) and alveolar bone. A marked inter-individual variability exists in the rate of tooth movement, susceptibility to adverse outcomes such as external apical root resorption (EARR), and overall treatment response. This narrative review synthesizes current evidence on molecular, genetic, and epigenetic biomarkers that underline these differences. We summarize established local biomarkers derived from gingival crevicular fluid and saliva, including in

Advances in orthodontic treatment, particularly with the use of temporary anchorage devices (TADs), have significantly improved outcomes for adult patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion. Traditionally reliant on orthognathic surgery, these malocclusions can now benefit from non-surgical options like maxillary molar distalization. Bone screws offer superior anchorage compared to conventional methods, enabling precise tooth movement without undesirable side effects. This case report explores the efficacy of TAD-assisted maxillary molar distalization in an adult patient while focusing on a

The article reviews the ageing changes of the midfacial and maxillary bones, the mandible, the overlaying soft tissues and the smile, and presents clinical guidelines aiming to rejuvenate older faces by means of orthodontic therapy. With regard to the ageing changes, the maxillary skeleton appears to rotate clockwise inferior to the orbit and becomes retrusive, and as a general pattern the midface contracts and deteriorates with age. Resorption below the mental foramen, reduction in alveolar height, loss of bone at the chin region, and relative increase in size and shape are signs of an aged m
