[Recurrent eyelid tumor in necrotizing panniculitis].

To our knowledge, necrotizing lid tumors occurring in the context of a necrotizing lobular panniculitis have not yet been described in the literature. Our patient, a 75-year-old male, presented with indolent, nonmoveable subcutaneous lumps that were centrally ulcerating. They appeared first on his upper lid, then on his lower lid and thereafter on the neck, back, upper extremity and abdomen, especially in the area of his cholecystectomy scar. A thorough work-up, which included repeated histopathological examinations performed by several laboratories, led to the diagnosis of an idiopathic necro…

Cytophagic histiocytic panniculitis: a diagnostic dilemma.

Cytophagic histiocytic panniculitis (CHP) is a recently recognized entity that frequently poses a perplexing diagnostic problem. Although the classical case presents with a relapsing fever, subcutaneous nodules, pancytopenia and liver dysfunction, most patients have in addition a multitude of other manifestations which confuse the clinical picture. Notwithstanding the variable clinical course, the disease frequently terminates in fatal hemorrhage. Diagnosis is based on histological features. A lobular panniculitis with an infiltrate of cytologically benign cytophagocytic histiocytes in skin no…

Lipophagic panniculitis in re-excision specimens.

Lipophagic panniculitis consists of a macrophage infiltrate in the subcutaneous tissue. The macrophages transform into foam cells within the panniculus; they replace lipocytes and may form giant cells. Although those pathologic features have been described as diagnostic of Weber-Christian disease, we report the occurrence of lipophagic panniculitis in re-excision specimens. Among 252 re-excision specimens from previously biopsied skin tumors, 5 cases in which masses of lipophages were infiltrating and replacing the subcutaneous tissue were found. The infiltrate was localized to the deep dermis…

Sterile nodular panniculitis in five horses.

Sterile nodular panniculitis was diagnosed in 5 horses. Physical abnormalities were predominantly limited to cutaneous changes, consisting of multiple subcutaneous nodules that had a tendency to wax and wane over time and were commonly distributed over the trunk, neck, and proximal portion of the limbs. In each horse, the diagnosis was confirmed by excisional biopsy of a nodule and by exclusion of infective causes of panniculitis on the basis of negative culture results and special stain application to skin specimens. Treatment with immunosuppressive doses of glucocorticoids was curative in 1 …

[Eosinophilic migratory nodular panniculitis (human gnathostomiasis)].

The case of a patient with thoracic abdominal and left arm, migratory erythema-edematous plates over a space of three years is described. The histopathologic features reveal a eosinophilic panniculitis due to probable larva migrans (gnathostomiasis). This appears to be the first report on the subject because we have not found any reference to the subject in Argentina bibliographic search.

[Idiopathic liquefying panniculitis with fatal outcome].

A 34 year's old female patient died of nodular liquefying panniculitis after a six months evolution. The only systemic lesions found at post mortem histological examination were an involvement of both pleural cavities with an oily fluid. This seemed to have been the cause of death. This symptomatology was not observed in any of the 26 fatal cases of Weber-Christian disease published in the literature among which 11 cases with no other lesions than adipous tissue lesions, 6 cases where death was related to secondary effects of panniculitis and 9 cases where death was related in intercurrent dis…
