BACKGROUND: Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a major digestive disorders, and prognosis is determined by many social-demographic and clinicopathologic characteristics. This study aimed to identify risk factors and construct a predictive model for better diagnosis of CAG.

The connection between dyspeptic symptoms and Helicobacter pylori infection was studied prospectively in 21 children treated for verified H. pylori infection with bismuth subcitrate and tinidazole. Gastroscopy with biopsy was performed before and a mean of 4 months after discontinuation of the treatment. Peptides from a Staphylococcus aureus (V8) proteinase digest of human pepsin 3b have been identified by amino acid sequence analysis. Only 137 out of 326 expected residues were detected from the C and N terminal regions of the molecule. AIM: The persistence of chronic inflammation in gastric mucosa and elevated Helicobacter pylori antibodies after successful eradication therapy are common findings in clinical practice. We studied their possible association with each other and disappearance in long-term follow up, as well as their possible connection with gastric atrophy.

Gastrointestinal bleeding caused by peptic ulcer disease is one of the serious complications of living-related liver transplantation (LRLT). The aim of this study was to clarify the factors involved in peptic ulcer formation in adult LRLT recipients. Forty consecutive adult LRLT recipients without a history of peptic ulcer disease were studied. Twenty-five patients (62.5%) tested positive for Helicobacter pylori.
