Abdominal tuberculosis with a Pseudo-Sister Mary Joseph nodule mimicking peritoneal carcinomatosis.

A 46-year-old woman presented in severe abdominal pain on a background of 3 months of weight loss and intermittent vomiting. She had visited East Africa 6 months prior but reported no unwell contacts. On examination, she had generalised abdominal tenderness, distension and a painful paraumbilical swelling. CT scanning confirmed small bowel obstruction and revealed widespread peritoneal nodules, lymphadenopathy, ascites and a soft tissue paraumbilical mass. CA-125 tumour marker was elevated. However, transvaginal ultrasound scanning showed normal-appearing ovaries. She underwent a diagnostic la

Pancreatic tuberculosis-abdominal tuberculosis presenting as pancreatic abscesses and colonic perforation.

Isolated pancreatic tuberculosis is an extremely rare condition, more so in an immunocompetent individual. Its presentation as pancreatic abscesses with colonic perforation has not been reported so far. This condition poses difficulties in clinical diagnoses. Herein we report a case who was operated in another hospital for pancreatic abscesses, and referred to our institution later when he developed fecal peritonitis due to colonic perforation. Re-laparotomy, resection and exteriorisation of the colon were done. Acid fast bacilli was seen in the histopathological examination of the resected co

[Extra-pulmonary tuberculosis in childhood].

Extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (EPT) accounts for around 25% of cases of the disease, and around 20% in children. In Pott's disease and other forms of bone and joint involvement (globally 10-15% of EPT cases), modern imaging techniques like MRI scan have improved diagnosis and follow-up of treatment outcomes. Tuberculous meningitis has not disappeared even in BCG vaccinated children and remains a severe form of the disease. Techniques like the polymerase chain reaction and MRI contribute to an early diagnosis and controversy persists regarding the role of corticosteroid therapy in the treatment

Genital tract tuberculosis with peritoneal involvement: MR appearance.

The MR appearance of a case of genital tract tuberculosis is reported. The finding of a large amount of loculated fluid containing septations and debris on ultrasound along with bilateral hydropic fallopian tubes and a thickened omentum on MRI permitted the diagnosis to be suggested preoperatively. With increasing prevalence, such unusual manifestations of tuberculosis will be seen more frequently.

Concurrent ascending colon adenocarcinoma and ileocecal tuberculosis: A case report.

RATIONALE: Few cases have been reported of the coexistence of tuberculosis and adenocarcinoma of the large bowel. We report a rare case of concurrent ascending colon adenocarcinoma and ileocecal tuberculosis, which were nearly indistinguishable from one another. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 59-year-old man visited our clinic with dizziness and anorexia. DIAGNOSIS: Computed tomography revealed a mass in the ascending colon with ill-defined nodules in the liver. A colon biopsy showed adenocarcinoma with multinucleated giant cells. The liver nodules were confirmed to be metastatic adenocarcinomas. INTE

Primary Malignant Mesothelioma of the Peritoneum Mistaken for Peritoneal Tuberculosis due to Elevated Cancer Antigen 125.

Adifferential diagnosis of ascites is always challenging for physicians. Peritoneal tuberculosis is particularly difficult to distinguish from peritoneal carcinomatosis because of the similarities in clinical manifestations and laboratory results. Although the definitive diagnostic method for ascites is to take a biopsy of the involved tissues through laparoscopy or laparotomy, there are many limitations in performing biopsies in clinical practice. For this reason, physicians have attempted to find surrogate markers that can substitute for a biopsy as a confirmative diagnostic method for ascit

Jejunal multiple perforations for combined abdominal typhoid fever and miliary peritoneal tuberculosis.

Typhoid fever and tuberculosis, considered rare diseases in western countries, is still considered a notable problem of health issue in developing countries. The gastrointestinal manifestations of typhoid fever are the most common and the typhoid intestinal perforation (TIP) is considered the most dangerous complication. Abdominal localization of tuberculosis is the 6th most frequent site for extra pulmonary involvement, it can involve any part of the digestive system, including peritoneum, causing miliary peritoneal tuberculosis (MPT). This is the case report of a 4 years old girl with multip

Abdominal pain in a patient with ankylosing spondylitis under treatment with infliximab.

In patients suffering from ankylosing spondylitis, silent inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is frequent. Furthermore, spondylarthritis may be the first manifestation of IBD.We describe the case of a patient suffering from ankylosing spondylitis who presented with abdominal pain. The patient had been treated over 2(1/2) years with infliximab. Although the initial clinical presentation seemed to suggest new-onset IBD as the cause of the abdominal pain, it eventuated that the patient was suffering from a severe abdominal manifestation of tuberculosis likely due to reactivation of latent tuberculos

Young woman with polyserositis, ovarian cystic mass and increased level of CA-125. Case report of peritoneal and pleural tuberculosis.

A 21-year-old woman was addressed to our department for progressive abdominal swelling, fatigue and fever. The clinical examination, the ultrasound examination and the computed tomography showed the presence of polyserositis (ascites and pleural effusion) and revealed a cystic mass at the level of right ovary. The laboratory work-up showed an increased level of CA-125, suggesting a malignancy. The thoracoscopy with visualization of the pleura revealed disseminated small white spots. The laparoscopic exploration of the pelvis and of the peritoneum also showed the same disseminated lesions and a
