OBJECTIVE: Qualitative methods were used to investigate the perspectives of service providers working in Permanent Supportive Housing, Transitional Living Programs, and Rapid Rehousing for young adults who have experienced homelessness. The primary aim was to explore how housing models were designed, implemented, and the extent to which there is variability in how providers approach their work with young adults.

The aim of the psychotrauma prevention algorithm is to limit the occurrence of psychotrauma in a subject who has experienced a serious life event, by carrying out an initial assessment to define the severity criterion and the monitoring modality best suited to his or her clinical condition. This approach is in line with the philosophy of outreach and the ethics of concern. Recontacting the patient during the course of treatment helps to maintain the therapeutic link and prevent any deterioration in his condition, thus limiting the risk of his traumatic state becoming chronic.

Babies born with clefts of the lip, and the alveolus or palate, or both, require multidisciplinary, highly specialised treatment from birth to early adulthood. We review the contemporary management of clefts and outline the current treatment protocol adopted by cleft networks in the United Kingdom. We also look at the level of evidence and the restructuring of services that has defined current practice. In light of the recent Cleft Care UK study, we ask whether it is now time to adopt a new philosophy towards the surgical techniques that are used.

Controversy exists over the best method and technique of repair of oesophageal atresia and diaphragmatic hernia. Open surgical repairs have a long established history of over 60 years of experience. Set against this has been a series of successful thoracoscopic repairs of both congenital anomalies reported over the past decade. This review was based upon a four-handed debate on the merits and weaknesses of the two contrasting surgical philosophies and reviews existing literature, techniques, complications, and importantly outcome and results.

Various therapies are accessed by women who are looking to enhance the experience of pregnancy or to relieve pain from pregnancy-related ailments. This article gives an introduction to how osteopathy may help women presenting with pain. It includes an overview of a case study, in order that midwives can gain insight into how osteopathic medicine approaches and applies knowledge of anatomy and physiology to improve biomechanics that may have become sub optimal giving the symptom of pain. Older widows' experience of living alone is described in this research. Based on Husserl's (1913/1962) philosophy, a phenomenological method was used. Prior to data-gathering, knowledge pertaining to older widows' experience was bracketed. During semi-structured, tape-recorded conversations, seven older widows described how they lived at home alone. From data pertaining to their actions, intentions and perceptions, four phenomena of the lived experience were developed: (a) making aloneness acceptable; (b) going my own way; (c) reducing my risks; and (d) sustaining myself.
