Genetic polymorphisms among human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) wild-type strains.

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) clinical isolates display genetic polymorphisms in multiple genes. Some authors have suggested that those polymorphisms may be implicated in HCMV-induced immunopathogenesis, as well as in strain-specific behaviours, such as tissue-tropism and ability to establish persistent or latent infections. This review summarises the features of the main clustered HCMV polymorphic open reading frames and also briefly cites other variable loci within the viral genome. The implications of gene polymorphisms are discussed in terms of potentially advantageous higher fitness obtain

Genetic susceptibility in Dupuytren's disease. TGF-beta1 polymorphisms and Dupuytren's disease.

Dupuytren's disease is a benign fibroproliferative disease of unknown aetiology. It is often familial and commonly affects Northern European Caucasian men, but genetic studies have yet to identify the relevant genes. Transforming growth factor beta one (TGF-beta1) is a multifunctional cytokine which plays a central role in wound healing and fibrosis. It stimulates the proliferation of fibroblasts and the deposition of extracellular matrix. Previous studies have implicated TGF-beta1 in Dupuytren's disease, suggesting that it may represent a candidate susceptibility gene for this condition. We h

Association of the ABCB1 gene polymorphism C3435T (rs1045642) with acute myeloid leukemia: A genetic study.

INTRODUCTION: The ATP Binding Cassette Subfamily B1 (ABCB1) gene is responsible for encoding the permeability glycoprotein (P-gp), a crucial protein involved in multidrug resistance. P-gp functions as an ATP-dependent efflux pump, actively removing diverse substances, including carcinogens, from cells. However, a specific genetic variation called the C3435T polymorphism of the ABCB1 gene has been linked to reduced plasma levels of P-gp substrates. This genetic variation leads to the accumulation of harmful compounds within cells, which may increase susceptibility to hematological malignancies.

Genetic Polymorphism of IL-1A, IL-1B and TNFA Predicting the Presence of Periodontopathogenic Bacteria.

Background/Objectives: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by complex interactions between periodontal pathogens and the host immune response. Pro-inflammatory cytokines, particularly interleukins, may influence bacterial colonization and disease expression, but their association with specific periodontal pathogens remains unclear. This study investigated the associations between single-nucleotide polymorphisms in IL-1A, IL-1B, and TNFA and the presence of key periodontopathogenic bacteria in patients from Croatia. Methods: A cross-sectional study included 63 particip

Exploring the Influence of Genetic Single-Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNPs) on Endodontic Pathologies: A Comprehensive Review.

A considerable portion of the global population is affected by pulpitis and periapical lesions. While the impact of infections caused by various microbes and host effector molecules in pulpal and periapical diseases is widely recognized, disease susceptibility and progression are also influenced by the dynamic interaction between host genetic factors and environmental influences. Apical periodontitis occurs as an inflammatory response to microorganisms present in the root canals of infected teeth. Initially functioning as the body's defense mechanism, this response often progresses to chronic

Systematic review and meta-analysis of the genetic association between protamine polymorphism and male infertility.

While several previous studies have proposed an association between male infertility and protamine polymorphism, the reported findings have shown some inconsistency. To evaluate the potential association between the two most common single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs2301365 and rs1646022) in protamine and male infertility, we performed a meta-analysis involving 2713 cases and 2086 controls from 15 published case-controlled studies. Overall, our analysis showed significant associations between the specific protamine single-nucleotide polymorphism (rs2301365) and male infertility, and this assoc

The genetic polymorphism and expression profiles of NLRP3 inflammasome in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia.

NLRP3 inflammasome has been recently reported as an important risk factor in the development of cancer. But the relationship between polymorphisms of NLRP3 inflammasome related genes and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is rarely reported. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the association of five genetic polymorphisms (NLRP3, IL-1β, IL-18, CARD8 and NF-κB) in 267 CML patients and 344 healthy controls. We found that the AT genotype of CARD8 (rs2043211) was significantly higher compared to TT genotype in high and intermediate risk CML patients. IL-1β (rs16944) polymorphism
