OBJECTIVES: To measure the long term effects of dance training and the contribution of the timing and duration of any menstrual disruption on bone mineral density (BMD).
DESIGN: Measurement of BMD in 57 premenopausal, previously professionally dance trained women and the relationship to menstrual and training history.

In this study, 39 laid-off mental health professionals responded to a questionnaire that focused on the emotional stress of being laid off and the respondents' efforts to cope with the stress. In the early weeks after lay-off, shock, disbelief, anger, and sadness gave way to depression, anxiety, and feelings of being betrayed and discounted. Most respondents coped with these feelings by talking to others who were being laid off or by focusing their energies on seeking a new job. The aim of the study was to investigate the occupational turnover among Swedish professional drivers in order to explain if there is a health-based dropout from the job. The retrospective study covered the period from 1974 to 1985 and included 1,731 male members of the Swedish Transport Workers' Union in 1974. Myeloma is a malignancy of plasma cells which are terminally differentiated B-lymphocytes. The diagnosis may be made incidentally at routine blood testing, when an abnormality is found in the plasma proteins on electrophoresis. Theoretical considerations in, and an exemplary instance of, group speech therapy with aphasic patients are submitted for discussion. Contrary to current practice, individual and group therapy are considered of equal rank, as all aspects of speech and language can be realized in the latter, with both approaches having similar goals. Group work contents is characterized as verbal coping with guided verbal tasks. Group composition is recommended to emphasize speech and language criteria, as opposed to social and psychosocial criteria. Also dealt with is the position of the speech therapist.

Radiographs were taken of the forearm of 56 rodeo contestants who performed regularly in active competition. All of the professional bareback riders revealed a significant hypertrophy in the ulna. Injuries sustained by male and female professional basketball teams were compared. Injuries from two consecutive seasons were coded, and computer-based cross-tabulations comparing sex, body part, and type of injury were performed. The women's injury frequency was 1.6 times that of men. The body part most frequently injured on both teams was the ankle.
