Psychosocial-spiritual factors in patients with functional dyspepsia: a comparative study with normal individuals having the same endoscopic features.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study is to identify factors that are associated with dyspeptic symptoms in patients with functional dyspepsia (FD) in a multivariate context. METHODS: Demographic data, personal habits, stressful life events, and psychological distress were compared between functional dyspeptic patients with gastric reddish streaks and asymptomatic counterparts who underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy as part of a self-paid physical check-up. RESULTS: There were 93 patients in the symptomatic group and 67 patients in the asymptomatic group. FD patients had a lower proportion

Functional, psychosocial and professional outcomes in long-term survivors of lower-extremity osteosarcomas: amputation versus limb salvage.

As the number of osteosarcoma survivors increases, the impact of quality of life and function needs to be addressed. Limb salvage is the preferred treatment when patients have treatment options; yet, the questionable long-term durability and complications of prostheses, combined with ambiguous function, leave some doubt regarding the best clinical and surgical options. Comparisons between limb salvage patients, amputees and controls also require further investigation. Amputation would leave the patients with a lifelong requirement for an external prosthetic leg associated with an overall limit

Treatment of craniopharyngiomas--the stereotactic approach in a ten to twenty-three years' perspective. II. Psychosocial situation and pituitary function.

Fourty-two consecutive patients with craniopharyngioma were treated by "stereotactic approach", i.e. preferentially stereotactic puncture and installation of colloid isotope into cystic tumours and external stereotactic single dose irradiation to solid tumour parts. In a minority of cases, such treatment was less suitable, and surgical removal and/or radiotherapy was used. There was no peroperative mortality. A long-term follow up (observation time 10-23 years) of the 31 patients alive indicated that they were socially well adapted with a high rate of fulltime work and a low rate of intercurre

Psychosocial aspects of neoplastic disease: I. Functional status of breast cancer patients during different treatment regimens.

The authors studied 146 breast cancer patients representing three different treatment regimens by means of a structured interview, open-ended questions, and a modified Psychiatric Status Schedule. The major findings indicated that physical disability did not necessarily relate to an increase in emotional disturbance. The most emotionally disturbing time was the first recurrence of the breast cancer, and the most common disturbance reported in all three treatment groups was in the area of mate role functioning. In addition, adjuvant radiation therapy was a potent source of distress during prima

Effects of timing and type of trauma-focused treatment on psychosocial functioning: secondary outcomes from a randomized controlled trial in patients with co-occurring substance use disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder.

UNLABELLED: Patients with co-occurring posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorder (SUD) often experience additional psychosocial difficulties, including emotion dysregulation, interpersonal problems, and trauma-related guilt and shame. Evidence on optimal timing and type of trauma-focused treatment remains limited, particularly for psychosocial outcomes beyond PTSD and SUD-severity. This study examined secondary outcomes from a randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing Prolonged Exposure (PE), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Imagery Rescripting

The bidirectional relationship between depression and cognitive function in older adults: evidence from a psychosocial intervention on late-life depression.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Depression is a modifiable predictor of dementia, but the effects of addressing depression to improve cognition, especially psychosocial interventions, are understudied. The underlying relationships between depressive symptoms (DS) and cognitive function (CF) are also unclear. Most prior research has been observational, lacking insight into their interactions during interventions. This study examined the longitudinal relationships between DS and CF across psychosocial interventions in older adults, modeling changes as latent variables for more accurate estimations.

Associations of Baseline Cognitive and Psychosocial Function With Clinical Outcomes After Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation in a Multiple Myeloma Sample

Background: /Objectives: Autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) remains a standard frontline treatment for eligible patients with multiple myeloma and is associated with im-proved progression-free survival and sustained treatment responses. In addition to medi-cal eligibility factors, pre-treatment psychosocial variables such as depression and anxiety as well as cognitive functioning may influence short and long-term transplant outcomes. This study examined the relationship between pre-transplant psychosocial and cognitive functioning and clinical outcomes in patients with multiple myelom

Psychosocial and Functional Outcomes Among Tetralogy of Fallot Survivors in the Congenital Heart Disease Project to Understand Lifelong Survivor Experience.

As survival improves for adults with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), long-term outcomes have taken on greater importance. We aimed to compare the long-term health, socioeconomic, and quality of life (QOL) outcomes between adult survivors and sibling controls. CHD PULSE is a cross-sectional survey from 2021 to 2023 across 11 Pediatric Cardiac Care Consortium centers; 3,133 adults with a history of CHD and 326 unaffected siblings completed surveys on health, socioeconomic, and QOL outcomes with the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS). There were 337 TOF survivors, who we

Depression and anxiety symptoms and their psychosocial and functional correlates among people living with HIV attending two urban clinics in Panama.

Depression and anxiety disorder (GAD) symptoms are common among people living with HIV (PLHIV). In Panama, despite a growing epidemic and 20 antiretroviral clinics, only eight have integrated institutional mental healthcare. This study examined depression and GAD symptom levels and psychosocial correlates among PLHIV who attended two urban clinics. From August-November 2024, participants self-administered a questionnaire with PHQ-9 and GAD-2 instruments. Hierarchical logistic regression analyses identified associations with demographics, HIV care, psychosocial stressors and health-related func

The mediating effect of sleep quality in the relationship between nocturia and psychosocial functions in nurses: a cross-sectional survey based on TARGET.

BACKGROUND: Nocturia, the most common lower urinary tract symptom, significantly impacts individuals' physical and mental health, as well as their sleep quality. However, current research primarily focuses on the elderly, with few studies examining the professional population, particularly nurses. Given that nurses are particularly susceptible to nocturia due to frequent shift work, poor urination habits, and heavy workloads, this study aims to investigate the prevalence of nocturia among nurses and its effects on their psychosocial functions, as well as the mediating role of sleep quality.
