Lumbar epidural varices are a rare cause of radicular pain mimicking lumbar disc herniation or other cyst-like masses including sequestrated disc herniation, facet joint synovial cyst, or perineural cyst. We report a case of a 36-year-old woman presenting with lumbar radicular pain caused by a lumbar epidural varix. A radicular cyst associated with carious teeth is a very common odontogenic lesion in the oral cavity, but calcifications in residual radicular cysts are quite rare. We report one such case where a routine pre-implant radiographic assessment revealed a mixed periapical radiopaque radiolucent lesion in the right maxillary central incisor region. We report on an extremely rare case of a paravertebral thoracic mesothelial cyst in a young woman who presented with dorsal radiculopathy affecting the T5 dermatome. The patient underwent a standard transthoracic intercostal approach with removal of the cyst. During the operation, the T5 intercostal neurovascular bundle was found firmly attached to the lesion elucidating the origin of the radicular pain. We conducted a retrospective study to analyze the histologic and immunohistochemical findings in three main types of odontogenic cyst. We studied 90 archived cystic jaw lesions: 30 dentigerous cysts, 30 keratocystic odontogenic tumors, and 30 radicular cysts. The cyst types were identified on the basis of clinical, radiologic, and histopathologic findings. AIM: Our aim was to investigate how bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is immunoexpressed in periapical lesions. By surprise we detected Rushton bodies (RBs) whose origin has been debatable to be positive for LPS.
METHODOLOGY: Samples of radicular cysts (N=70) were stained in order to identify variations in LPS immunoexpression indicating bacterial background. A study was conducted to evaluate CT imaging in differentiating nonodontogenic nasopalatine duct cysts from odontogenic radicular cysts. The patient's palatine cystic lesion was analyzed by CT and excised with postoperative microscopic identification. CT findings of a nasopalatine cyst are midline location, smooth expansion with sclerotic margins and displacement of teeth apices. Radicular cysts differ in that the teeth apices are within the cyst rather than being displaced. We concluded that differentiation is clearly demonstrated by CT images.
