Efficacy of ceramides and niacinamide-containing moisturizer versus hydrophilic cream in combination with topical anti-acne treatment in mild to moderate acne vulgaris: A split face, double-blinded, randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Topical therapy is the mainstay treatment of acne, and topical retinoids such as tretinoin, tazarotene, and adapalene are recommended as the first-line therapy for mild to moderate acne. However, the cutaneous irritations may occur, and the dermocosmetics are recommended to prevent side effects of anti-acne drugs and adhere to treatment. Thus, this study aims to compare the efficacy and tolerability of ceramides and niacinamide-containing moisturizer (CCM) versus hydrophilic cream in combination with topical anti-acne treatment in mild to moderate acne vulgaris. METHODS: This wa

Add-on effects of Chinese herbal medicine external application (FZHFZY) to topical urea for mild-to-moderate psoriasis vulgaris: Protocol for a double-blinded randomized controlled pilot trial embedded with a qualitative study.

Psoriasis vulgaris is a chronic dermatological disease with a high global prevalence. It significantly reduces patients' quality of life and is associated with a substantial economic burden. Conventional therapies for mild-to-moderate psoriasis are often associated with insufficient long-term symptomatic relief and side effects. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) is commonly used for psoriasis management. A CHM formula, namely Fu zheng he fu zhi yang (FZHFZY), has shown promising treatment effects in clinical practice when used as a bath therapy. However, its efficacy and safety has not been evalua

Lateral internal sphincterotomy is superior to topical nitroglycerin for healing chronic anal fissure and does not compromise long-term fecal continence: six-year follow-up of a multicenter, randomized, controlled trial.

PURPOSE: Although there is enthusiasm for nonoperative management of anal fissures, most trials have been of short duration (6-8 weeks) and long-term outcome is unknown. The purpose of this study was to assess long-term outcome in two cohorts of patients who had participated in a randomized, controlled trial to compare the effectiveness of topical nitroglycerin with internal sphincterotomy in the treatment of chronic anal fissure. METHODS: Between February 1997 and October 1998, 82 patients with chronic anal fissure were accrued and randomized to 0.25 percent nitroglycerin ointment t.i.d. or

Is the topical application of sesame oil (Sesamum indicum L.) combined with standard care valuable and safe for managing infusion-related phlebitis: Evidence from a systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

OBJECTIVES: Recent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have studied the potential effect of the topical use of sesame oil (SO), obtained from the sesame plant seeds (Sesamum indicum L., Pedaliaceae family), in preventing or alleviating the symptoms of infusion-related phlebitis (IRP); nevertheless, their data are inconsistent. Thus, this review sought to qualitatively and quantitatively synthesize data from all available RCTs concerning the effect of the topical administration of SO on managing IRP. METHODS: The online databases were searched up to July 13, 2024. Studies were eligible if they

Dupilumab with concomitant topical corticosteroid treatment in adults with atopic dermatitis with an inadequate response or intolerance to ciclosporin A or when this treatment is medically inadvisable: a placebo-controlled, randomized phase III clinical trial (LIBERTY AD CAFÉ).

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that may require systemic therapy. Ciclosporin A (CsA) is a widely used, potent immunosuppressant but it is not effective in all patients with atopic dermatitis, and side-effects limit its use. Dupilumab, a fully human anti-interleukin 4 receptor-alpha monoclonal antibody, inhibits signaling of IL-4 and IL-13, key drivers of Type 2/Th2-mediated inflammation, and is approved in the U.S.A. and the European Union for the treatment of inadequately-controlled moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis in adults.
