Using data from Belgian neuropathological archives, completed with the results of a comprehensive study of available medical records, we found 100 patients who fulfilled diagnostic criteria for probable or definite Creutzfeldt-Jakob d1551isease (CJD). Mean age at death was 63 years. The median disease duration was 9 months. Progressive mental deterioration was present in all cases, whereas signs of cerebellar dysfunction and myoclonus were found in approximately 80% of the patients. Some 676 human cases of cystic echinococcosis (CE) were recorded from 18 major hospitals in Jordan from January 1985 to October 1993. The number and origins of the cases indicate that CE is an endemic and widespread disease in Jordan. Operations for the extraction of hydatid cysts represented 0.1% of all surgical operations carried out in the surveyed hospitals during the study period (excluding Caesarean sections). The result of a one year retrospective study on stillbirths (SBs) occurring at Eldoret District Hospital labour unit between 1st November and 31st October, 1992 is presented. The stillbirth rate (SBR) was 30.5 per 1000 births. 72.2% were fresh stillbirths (FSB). The purpose of this retrospective study is to define current indications and results of Hartmann's procedure (H). From 1978 to 1989, 86 H were performed, 52 (60%) as emergency surgery.
