Solution chemical properties of two novel 8-hydroxyquinoline-D-proline and homo-proline hybrids were investigated along with their complex formation with [Rh(η5-C5Me5)(H2O)3]2+ and [Ru(η6-p-cymene)(H2O)3]2+ ions by pH-potentiometry, UV-visible spectrophotometry and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Although many catalysts of NO reduction have been developed, the presence of excess O(2) and SO(2) significantly inhibits their performance when they are used to treat the incineration flue gas. To solve such problem, this study prepared new Rh/Al(2)O(3) catalysts and investigated the effects of Na modification, SO(2) and different reductants. Reaction between Sr2Mn0.5Ir0.5O4 and CaH2 or LiH yields the iridium-containing oxyhydride phases Sr2Mn0.5Ir0.5O3.25H0.75 or Sr2Mn0.5Ir0.5O2.66H1.33, respectively. A voltammetric method for the determination of tin is proposed to minimise interferences from noble metals that are commonly encountered with other analytical techniques. Monodentate phosphoramidite ligands have been developed based on enantiopure 6,6'-dimethylbiphenols with axial chirality. These chiral ligands are easy to prepare and flexible for modifications. The fine-tuning capability of these ligands plays a significant role in achieving high enantioselectivity in the asymmetric hydroformylation of allyl cyanide and the conjugate addition of diethylzinc to cycloalkenones.

Metal release from 13 different gold-containing jewelry alloys stored for 1 and 3 weeks in artificial sweat was analysed. For chemical analysis, inductively-coupled plasma detection (ICP) and atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AA), with flame and with furnace, were used. No release of gold was detected. It is unlikely that skin contact with gold-containing metallic items such as jewelry is responsible for inducing contact allergy to gold or allergic contact dermatitis due to the gold. The patch-test reactivity to gold sodium thiosulfate needs to be explained by some other mechanism(s).
