Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a type of malignant tumor that originates in the bone marrow. This study reports on the treatment of an 11-year-old Uygur girl with a 15-day history of fever and paroxysmal cough, accompanied by right hip pain. During treatment, fatigue and anemia developed, physical strength decreased, and a few petechiae were seen in the lower extremities. Multiple enlarged lymph nodes were palpable in the neck, with slight congestion in the pharynx. Routine blood screening showed three major myeloid lineage abnormalities. Pathological examination revealed the presence of CD10 (-), CD

PURPOSE: To describe an orbital myeloid sarcoma in adult presenting with a swollen mass at inferomedial canthal area and epiphora which was misdiagnosed as nasolacrimal duct obstruction.
OBSERVATIONS: A 45-year-old male presented with a swollen right lower eyelid around medial canthal area for 2 months with tearing for 6 month-period earlier. Eye examination demonstrated a high tear meniscus, slightly erythematous eyelid with palpable mass closed to the lacrimal sac along the inferior orbital rim. Computed tomography scan depicted infiltrative mass at the inferomedial aspect of right orbit wi

FUS-ERG gene fusion has not been reported in cases of myeloid sarcoma (MS), a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia involving extramedullary anatomic sites. Here, we report a case of a 48-year-old man with primary isolated MS of the anterior mediastinum, who later developed multiple extramedullary recurrences without bone marrow infiltration throughout the course. G-banding analysis of the cells in pericardial effusion at recurrence showed complex karyotypic abnormalities including t(16;21)(p11.2;q22). FUS break-apart fluorescent in situ hybridization analysis showed split signals in biopsy sectio

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare neoplasm whose knowledge is largely based on case reports and/or technically dated contributions. Ninety-two MSs in adulthood with clinical data available were evaluated both morphologically and immunohistochemically. Seventy-four cases were also studied by fluorescent in situ hybridization on tissue sections and/or conventional karyotyping on bone marrow or peripheral blood. Histologically, 50% of the tumors were of the blastic type, 43.5% either monoblastic or myelomonocytic and 6.5% corresponded to different histotypes. CD68/KP1 was the most commonly expressed

A 23-year-old man with a history of Ph-Like B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) with JAK2 rearrangement presented with innumerable skin lesions developing over 1 week. Before presentation, he had multiple relapses of his B-ALL and underwent autologous UCD-19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. Lesions appeared 1.5 months after completion of therapy. Biopsies showed new onset myeloid sarcoma (MS), with continued remission of B-ALL. 18 F-FDG PET/CT showed numerous markedly hypermetabolic soft tissue lesions located in the skin and subcutaneous tissues, muscles, osseous struct

BACKGROUND: The treatment of myeloid sarcoma (MS) is challenging and has not markedly improved patient prognosis. The introduction of venetoclax (VEN) has changed the treatment of MS, and venetoclax-based therapy has been described as very promising in several case reports.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, we analyzed the treatment outcomes of 14 patients with MS treated with venetoclax-based therapy at The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University from January 2020 to October 2023 RESULTS: The cohort consisted of 7 (50%) women and 7 (50%) men with an average age of 37.5 years. Unusual presentations of otherwise common hematopoietic neoplasms are a well-recognized diagnostic challenge. Herein, we present a case study of a previously healthy 64 year old woman with myeloid sarcoma whose diagnosis was delayed by an unusual immunohistochemical staining pattern, including cytokeratin expression, by the neoplastic cells and by possible anchoring bias introduced by radiographic and flow cytometric immunophenotyping reports. This case study emphasizes the need to integrate clinical, radiographic, histologic, and immunophenotyping data for rapid and accurate tissue diagnoses

Myeloid sarcoma is an extra medullary manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Primary involvement of the biliary tract with myeloid sarcoma presenting as obstructive jaundice without evidence of leukemia is very rare. Here we present a case of 72 year old lady, who initially presented with features of biliary obstruction and was clinically considered as cholangiocarcinoma. She was diagnosed as myeloid sarcoma involving right and left hepatic duct, common bile duct (CBD) on histopathological and immunohistochemistry (IHC) examination after surgical resection. Since she did not show evide

BACKGROUND: Low back pain is a common symptom in the pediatric population; approximately half of all children present with at least one episode of low back pain. The majority of cases are due to nonspecific causes such as musculoskeletal trauma with spontaneous regression. On some occasions, however, life-threatening diseases have to be considered.
CASE REPORT: A 15-year-old girl presented to the Pediatric Emergency Department for a history of continuous 2-day duration of low back pain and transient paresthesia of the right gluteal area. Low back pain was diagnosed and nonsteroidal anti-infla

Primary myeloid sarcoma is a rare extramedullary manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Typically, myeloid sarcoma presents after a diagnosis of AML or other myeloproliferative disorder. However, primary myeloid sarcoma may present without any preexisting condition, thereby making it extremely difficult to diagnose. We discuss a case of a 22-year-old female who was misdiagnosed initially with acute appendicitis and underwent an appendectomy. Postoperatively, she continued to be symptomatic and eventually developed small bowel obstruction. Diagnostic laparoscopy revealed multiple small

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinicopathological features of myeloid sarcoma (MS).
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological features of patients with MS and reviewed the relevant literature.
RESULTS: There were 39 patients (20 male and 19 female, with a ratio of 1.1:1) aged 2-62 years (median: 33 years; mean: 33.4 years), with 53.9% patients in the 21-50 years age group. The clinical manifestations varied and were dependent on the lesion location. Immunohistochemistry and special staining showed that the positive rates for myeloperoxidase, CD43, CD34, CD117, CD68, Lysozyme,

The presentation of myeloid sarcoma (MS) in the bone is common; however, rarely does the tumor occur in the sacral spine, and in a normal patient with no history of acute myeloid leukemia. The present study describes the rare case of a previously healthy 24-year-old male patient, who presented with a history of six months of repeated pain in the right leg and hip and limping for less than a month, who was diagnosed with sacral MS. Despite receiving surgical management and chemotherapy promptly subsequent to the diagnosis and undergoing close observation following the treatment, the patient sti

Myeloid sarcoma is a rare hematological disorder that presents as an extramedullary mass of immature myeloid precursors. We herein present the case of a 57-year-old man with a seven-month history of progressive weakness in the right upper extremity. Reconstruction magnetic resonance neurography showed a marked enlargement of the right brachial plexus. Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography revealed a radioactive lesion in the sacrum, in addition to the right brachial plexus, and a biopsy of the sacrum revealed myeloid sarcoma. The brachial plexus lesion was also regarded as myeloid sa
