In conscious dogs with gastric and pancreatic fistulas, we compared the action of different doses of telenzepine (ranging from 9 to 243 nmol kg-1 h-1 i.v.) and pirenzepine (ranging from 43 to 1,170 nmol kg-1 h-1 i.v.) on the pancreatic secretory response to graded loads of intraduodenal infusions of tryptophan, given with a secretin background. Surgical diversion of bile and pancreatic secretions to the mid small bowel has been shown to provoke increased CCK plasma concentration and growth of the pancreas in rats. This study was undertaken to investigate the effects of chronic pancreaticobiliary diversion on pancreatic morphology as well as the circulating concentrations of pancreatic polypeptide, secretin, gastrin, and CCK. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of MR cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) for pancreas divism and anomalous arrangement of pancreaticobiliary ducts (APBD). In 214 patients, MRCP was performed. In 204 patients (94%), pancreaticobiliary ductal junction could be recognized. Pancreas divism was observed in 13 of 204 patients (6%), and APBD was observed in 10 of 204 patients (5%). Dynamic MRCP after secretin stimulation was useful for diagnosing pancreas divism and APBD.

Retained gastric antrum was evaluated in six dogs, and diagnostic methods correlated with histopathology. Secretin and calcium infusion did not significantly alter circulating gastrin levels. 99 mTc scanning was uniformly positive and did not depend on the presence of parietal cells. The failure to consistently develop hypergastrinemia and the absence of gastrin cell hyperplasia suggest that factors other than gastrin may be implicated in the recurrent ulceration seen with retained antrum.
