BACKGROUND: Young street hawkers in Burkina Faso are increasingly exposed to workplace hazards such as physical and sexual abuse, and also unsafe sexual practices. The objectives of this study were to identify the socio-demographic status and work characteristics of young female hawkers, describe their sexual behavior and their experience with regards to sex-related violence at the workplace.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether lesbian and heterosexual female physicians differ on health, professional, and demographic characteristics.
METHODS: The Women Physicians' Health Study (WPHS), a mailed questionnaire sample survey, was completed by 4501 women physicians (59% response rate), of whom 115 were identified as lesbians and 4177 were identified as heterosexuals. Lesbian and heterosexual were defined by response to items about self-identification and sexual behavior. The incidence of episodes of harassment and rape among military populations has only recently been examined. In the present study, a sample of 336 female veterans in a primary care setting was assessed. The incidences of lifetime sexual victimization, anxiety, depression, and impact of trauma for victims of specific trauma contexts are presented. Results of the study indicated that female veterans with a history of cumulative rape experiences and civilian rape experiences are more at risk for anxiety and depression than those with only a military experience of rape.
