Atomic absorption spectrophotometry was used to detect lenticular nickel, chromium, manganese, iron and aluminum levels in 37 senile cataractous and 9 normal human lenses. The nuclear parts of the lenses were used for the study in both groups. It was found that the concentrations of nickel and iron were significantly higher, and those of chromium, manganese and aluminum were significantly lower in human cataractous lenses than those in normal human lenses. PURPOSE: To determine the composition and solubility of the precipitate formed by thiopentone and vecuronium in vitro.
METHODS: The precipitate formed by mixing thiopentone 2.5% and vecuronium 0.1% at room temperature was analyzed by ultraviolet spectrophotometry and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The solubility of the precipitate in human plasma was measured by HPLC.

OBJECTIVE: Drug-induced lithiasis was well-known some years ago, when sulfonamides poorly soluble in urine were in use. Now, they are again in use for some opportunistic AIDS-related infections. We report herein the case of an AIDS patient, treated with sulfadiazine because of Nocardia pneumonia, that came to the emergency room in acute renal failure.
METHODS/RESULTS: Obstructive uropathy due to radiolucent calculi was suspected and retrograde ureteral catheterization was necessary. The calculi recovered were identified as N-acetyl sulfadiazine by infrared spectrophotometry.

A prospective trial compared spray thrombin to a bovine collagen haemostatic agent on skin graft donor sites. Twenty donor sites had half of the area covered with the collagen sheet and the other half sprayed with thrombin. Zinc and copper plasma levels were investigated in infants with chronic malnutrition. Using the method of atomic absorbing spectrophotometry microelements content was assessed in 82 infants with mild degree of malnutrition. In this paper we studied the properties of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA lyase (HMG-CoA lyase) in human skin fibroblasts. The enzyme was found to exhibit an absolute requirement for divalent cations such as magnesium. Furthermore, dithiothreitol was necessary for full activity. The enzyme was found to be maximally active at pH 9.25. Oxidation of stannous chloride by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans was studied manometrically. At low stannous ion concentrations, initial oxidation rate was proportional to concentration. The calcium hydroxide ionization of four root canal sealers (Sealapex, CRCS, Sealer 26, and Apexit) was studied by measuring conductivity and pH and by conducting atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Nonsymmetrical aldehyde derivatives of gossypol, a yellow polyphenolic pigment of cottonseed, were synthesized by reactions with ammonia, aniline, 4-aminoantipyrine, and barbituric acid. Ninetysix untreated patients with Malignant lymphoma's, 81 Hodgkin's disease and 15 Burkitt's lymphoma were studied for zinc (Zn) and selenium (Se) status. Pregnant and non pregnant rats were fed diets with different Mg content and treated with 5 oral doses of 300 mg/kg salicylic acid for 5 consecutive days or from day 16 to 20 of gestation.
