Endoperoxides (EP) are an emerging class of drugs which have potential in antiparasitic therapy, but also in other fields. PURPOSE: To describe the MR appearance of cystic meningiomas, and to correlate the MR appearance with the surgical and neuropathologic findings.
METHODS: Eight patients with cysts associated with meningiomas were studied on a 1.5-T MR system. Unenhanced sagittal T1- and axial T2-weighted images were obtained in all patients. Axial and coronal gadopentetate dimeglumine-enhanced T1-weighted spin-echo images were obtained in seven patients. Electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy has been used to provide direct evidence that free radical production occurs in an in vivo model of acute lung injury. Two experimental groups of rabbits were given the spin trap alpha-phenyl N-tert.-butyl nitrone (PBN), together with endotoxin in the test group, and saline in the control group. We studied the toxicological responses of a human hepatoblastoma cell line (HepG2/C3A) to various free fatty acids (FFA) in order to identify the relation between reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT).
