We report a 33 year-old woman addicted to chronic unspecified solvents abuse with stupor, respiratory disorders, tetraplegia and severe metabolic acidosis. On admission an unenhanced cranial CT scan showed symmetrical hypodensities of both lentiform nuclei. MR imaging performed 12 hours after stupor demonstrates bilateral putaminal hemorrhagic necrosis, bilateral external capsule, corona radiata and deep cerebellar hyperintensities with right cingulate cortex involvement. We report a child with HUS complicated by stupor, hemiparesis, expressive aphasia and focal seizures. CAT scan of the brain demonstrated 2 large cerebral non-hemorrhagic infarcts. Despite the severe neurological involvement the child eventually made a good recovery.

PURPOSE: To explore the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of anthrax meningoencephalitis.
METHODS: The clinical data of two cases of anthrax meningoencephalitis were summarized and the relevant literature was reviewed.
RESULTS: Both patients, who were farmers, had cutaneous lesions prior to the onset of meningoencephalitis. A 12-year-old juvenile diabetic was inadvertently given 500 ml of hypertonic saline intravenously. He developed hypernatremia, hyperosmolality, metabolic acidosis, and hyperglycemia. Seizures and stupor ensued, followed by coma and death. Computerized cranial tomography revealed numerous small subcortical hemorrhages that were verified postmortem.

We report a case of a 19-year-old immunocompetent Malay woman who presented with a worsening psychotic disorder of 1-year duration. She initially presented with social isolation with subsequent mutism and stupor. Physical examination revealed a stuporous, emaciated, dehydrated woman with Glasgow Coma Scale of 11/15 (E4V2M5). Benzodiazepines are primarily used for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder, insomnia and status epilepticus.
