We describe here the proof-of-concept of synthesizing microgels via cross-linking of chitosan and gelatin with succinimide-end polyethylene glycol (PEG). The introduction of PEG provided thermo-responsiveness to microgels, and the size of microgels significantly changed with increasing temperature. An effective La-complex-based probe ionization method is reported. Novel stable isotopically labeled probes containing the (15)N-labeled 2,6-bis(oxazolin-2-yl)pyridine (pybox) ligand, succinimide-tetramethylpybox (NHS-TMpybox), maleimide-tetramethylpybox (Mal-TMpybox), and 4-(tetramethylpybox)-butyl bromoacetate (BrAc-TMpybox), have been synthesized and their value in analyzing large complex molecules has been studied. The value of the (15)N-labeled pybox-La complex in ionizing various compounds, including bioactive peptides by cold-spray ionization mass spectrometry is emphasized.

Acute and chronic effects of methsuximide (25, 50, 75, and 100 mg/kg), a succinimide with anticonvulsant properties, were examined in pigeons responding under a multiple fixed-ratio 50 fixed-interval 90-sec schedule of food delivery. The clearest acute effect of methsuximide was a substantial reduction in response rates under both components of the multiple schedule when the drug was administered at 100 mg/kg. Anticonvulsant properties of two new derivatives, of phenylsuccinimide, N-morpholinomethyl-3-bromophenyl-succinimide(IL-7) and N-amino-3-bromophenylsuccinimide (IL-16), were studied.
