[Results of optical coherence tomography of the retina and optic nerve in keratoconus].

The article reviews the results of optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the retina and optic nerve in patients with keratoconus (KC). This research direction is premised by the possibility that changes in the retina and optic nerve are associated with KC, as well as the potential influence of significant changes in axial eye length, disorders of corneal refraction and increased level of aberrations on the quality of visualization of these ocular structures. Results of the conducted studies were conflicting, but in all they indicated a possibility of OCT findings to be altered in KC patients.

Emerging Applications of Optical Coherence Tomography in Pediatric Optic Neuropathies.

Limited cooperation and attention span often lead to poorly reliable assessments of visual acuity and visual fields in children, making diagnosis and monitoring of pediatric optic neuropathies challenging. As a noninvasive imaging modality, optical coherence tomography (OCT) could offer particular utility in this patient population. OCT provides high-resolution characterization of the optic nerve head, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer, and cellular layers of the macula, all of which can be used to assess the severity of optic nerve disease qualitatively and quantitatively. Application o

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) in optic neuritis and multiple sclerosis.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique routinely used in ophthalmology to visualize and quantify the layers of the retina. It also provides information on optic nerve head topography, peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, and macular volume, which correlate with axonal loss. These measurements are of particular interest in optic neuropathies and in multiple sclerosis, and OCT parameters are now used as endpoints in neurologic clinical trials.

Optic nerve atrophy in adrenoleukodystrophy detectable by optic coherence tomography.

The adrenoleukodystrophies (ALDs) are a group of metabolic disorders characterised by the accumulation of very long-chain fatty acids in all tissues. The two most frequent ALD phenotypes are adult-onset adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN) and childhood cerebral ALD. Visual system involvement in the adult phenotype is well described as impairment of visual function and optic disc pallor on clinical examination accompanied by demyelination of the optic nerves seen on MRI. Thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell death has been described in a neonatal form of ALD. Our patient provides

[Optical coherence tomography in the imaging of the iridocorneal angle].

Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS OCT), enables visualization and measurements of the anterior segment of the eye. In particular, it is a valuable tool in the imaging of the iridocorneal angle. In this paper, we reviewed parameters used for analysis of the iridocorneal angle in AS OCT and compared changes of these parameters after cataract surgery, laser iridotomy and illumination. Special attention was paid to changes of such quantitative parameters as TISA (trabecular-iris space area), AOD (angle opening distance), and ARA (angle recess area).

Optical coherence tomography enables optical biopsy of endometrial tissue for early cancer detection.

Endometrial cancer is the most common malignancy of the female reproductive tract, yet diagnosis relies on invasive tissue sampling with risk of false negatives. We report an initial investigation of catheter-based 3D optical coherence tomography (OCT) integrated with functional, structural, and radiomic feature analysis for noninvasive endometrial assessment in ex vivo specimens. A custom 3.1-mm OCT catheter acquired volumetric images from 57 intact uterine specimens spanning normal endometrium, benign conditions, high-risk endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia, and endometrial cancer. Optical Radiomic Signatures Derived from Optical Coherence Tomography Images Improve Identification of Melanoma.

The current gold standard for clinical diagnosis of melanoma is excisional biopsy and histopathologic analysis. Approximately 15-30 benign lesions are biopsied to diagnose each melanoma. In addition, biopsies are invasive and result in pain, anxiety, scarring, and disfigurement of patients, which can add additional burden to the health care system. Among several imaging techniques developed to enhance melanoma diagnosis, optical coherence tomography (OCT), with its high-resolution and intermediate penetration depth, can potentially provide required diagnostic information noninvasively. Effect of optical clearing agents on optical coherence tomography images of cervical epithelium.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be used as an adjunct to colposcopy in order to detect precancerous and cancerous cervical lesions. Optical clearing agents (OCAs) temporarily reduce the optical scattering of biological tissues. The purpose of this study was to investigate their influence on OCT imaging. OCT images were taken from unsuspicious and suspicious areas of fresh conization specimens immediately after resection and 5, 10, and 20 min after application of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) or polyethylene glycol (PEG). Corresponding histologies were obtained from all sites. The images tak

Optical diagnosis of cervical intraepithelial neoplasm (CIN) using polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography.

We previously reported that in normotensive humans submaximal mouth opening (mandibular extension) obtained by an ad hoc dilator (spring device), associated with partial masticatory movements and prolonged for 10 minutes is followed by a long-lasting reduction of blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR). Similar results were obtained by us in anesthetized rats. A recent independent study failed to confirm the results in the normotensive human. We reassessed, in 25 normotensive volunteers, the effects on BP and HR of mandibular extension obtained by the spring device associated with partial mast

Juxtapapillary Choroidal Neovascular Membrane as a Complication of Optic Disc Drusen: Multimodal Imaging With Swept Source-Optical Coherence Tomography and Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

A 55-year-old Caucasian man presented to the neuro-ophthalmology department for follow-up evaluation due to long-standing bilateral optic nerve head drusen (ONHD). On examination, the BCVA was 20/20-2 in both eyes. Dilated fundus examination revealed extensive ONHD in both eyes, retinal hemorrhages, exudates inferonasal to the macula, and macular edema inferotemporal to the disc margin. Automated visual field testing revealed generalized depression in both eyes. Late phase leakage was observed on fluorescein angiography (FA). Optical coherence tomography angiography identified a small juxtapap
