The experience of the ultrasonic diagnosis of intrahepatic secondary changes in 36 cases with liver hydatidosis was reported. The ultrasonograms were classified into five types: I. separated internal capsule, II. disruptive internal capsule; III. mixed echo; IV. thick-wall calcification; and V. consolidation. We studied the ultrasonogram character of the five types, and considered that the occurrence of type I, type II, and type IV resulted from single cyst pattern, while type III and type V resulted from multiple cyst pattern. A method for ultrasonically guided fine needle pyelography is described. The procedure involves puncture of the renal pelvis with a long (150-200 mm) 0.8 mm needle which is subsequently bent and fixed to the skin. Puncture of the calyceal system can be performed even in cases of very mild dilatation and contrast medium for detailed radiologic investigation injected. The procedure is simple, safe and inexpensive and it has been performed on 49 patients without complications.

Central corneal thickness (CCT) of normal and oedematous corneae was measured in a study comparing a modified Haag-Streit optical pachometer and an ultrasonic pachometer (Teknar Ophthasonic, preset velocity 1630 m/s). Sixty-eight patients were examined before and after cataract extraction with implantation of an anterior chamber lens. In order to have a visual picture of the larynx, laryngeal preparations and larynxes of 50 healthy children were exposed to ultrasonic scanning. Also, 48 children, aged 9 months to 15 years, were examined 77 times: their complaints were dysphonia and/or impaired breathing. This study describes the role of ultrasound in the evaluation of abdominal abscesses in children. A total of 41 abscesses were encountered in 36 patients (21 boys and 15 girls). The youngest patient was 1-month-old. Abscesses were localised at various sites (hepatic, renal, perirenal, paracolic, appendicular, pelvic, psoas, subphrenic, parietal), and of varied sonographic patterns (complex, anechoic, hypoechoic and containing uniform low level echoes). Most of them had irregular walls.

The aim of this work is to suggest a new diagnostic approach to the "female varicocele syndrome" which utilizes transvaginal ultrasonography. The presence of circular or linear anechogenic structures with a diameter greater than 5 mm, which were found in transverse and oblique sections of the lateral fornices, was indicative of pelvic varices. The echotomographic picture of liver alveococcosis was described on the basis of investigation of 132 patients (the diagnosis in 22 was verified by biopsy). Some features of alterations were determined over time. Radionuclide scanning was shown to be less effective in the diagnosis of liver alveococcosis than echotomography.

The validity of ultrasonic imaging as a tool for the investigation of pseudoglottal movements was studied in five good to excellent esophageal speakers. The length of pseudoglottis and vibration rate during phonation of vowels was evaluated by means of B-mode and M-mode sonography respectively. The pseudoglottal vibration rate as seen in M-mode sonography was in high agreement with the fundamental frequency of the simultaneously recorded sound as assessed by speech analysis. Ultrasound imaging is a promising diagnostic and therapeutic tool for the control and development of esophageal speech.

Scrotal ultrasound examinations of 23 male adults and children with the diagnosis of lymphoproliferative disease (LPD) were performed.
