Acceptance, hesitancy, and ethical challenges of the COVID-19 vaccine in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: In light of the public health emergency brought about by the novel coronavirus, health authorities actively promoted vaccination against SARS-CoV-2. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the forefront critical questions concerning individual freedoms and the right to consent or decline vaccination. To better anticipate and manage future epidemics, it is essential to engage in thoughtful philosophical and ethical reflection-particularly regarding the legitimacy and implications of vaccine passport policies. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and hesit

Low parental income level is associated with pediatric COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy in the San Francisco Bay area.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize the differences between COVID-19 vaccine-hesitant and vaccine-accepting parents in the Bay Area. METHODS: We analyzed a cross-sectional survey of 251 parents of children (< 18 years) from six San Francisco Bay Area counties in November of 2022. We adapted WHO's Vaccine Hesitancy Scale (VHS) into a 9-item Likert scale measuring COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. We assigned a VHS score to each participant, with lower VHS scores indicating higher vaccine hesitancy. We performed multiple linear regression analyses with VHS scores and children's vaccination status as outcomes

Factors influencing vaccine hesitancy among United Kingdom adolescents in a senior high school environment and actions to address it.

We explored adolescent viewpoints on vaccines and hesitancy using an anonymized, validated, self-completed electronic questionnaire amongst state-school Year 12-13 adolescents in London, UK. As the response rate was low (Cohort 1; n = 112/486, 23.0%), we repeated the survey with incoming students (cohort 2, n = 256/275; 93%). A focus group (n = 31) evaluated international HPV campaign posters. Cohort 1 participants were 82.1% female, 13.4% male, and ethnically diverse (32.1% Asian/Asian British, 29.5% Black/Black British, 25.9% White, 7.1% Mixed); Cohort 2 were 80% female, 18% male, with parti

Vaccine hesitancy decreases in rheumatic diseases, long-term concerns remain in myositis: a comparative analysis of the COVAD surveys.

OBJECTIVE: COVID-19 vaccines have a favorable safety profile in patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRDs) such as idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs); however, hesitancy continues to persist among these patients. Therefore, we studied the prevalence, predictors and reasons for hesitancy in patients with IIMs, other AIRDs, non-rheumatic autoimmune diseases (nrAIDs) and healthy controls (HCs), using data from the two international COVID-19 Vaccination in Autoimmune Diseases (COVAD) e-surveys. METHODS: The first and second COVAD patient self-reported e-surveys were circulated fro

Parents' Perception, Acceptance, and Hesitancy to Vaccinate Their Children against COVID-19: Results from a National Study in the UAE.

Introduction: COVID-19 is considered the greatest health disaster affecting humans during the 21st century, which urged the need to develop an effective vaccine to acquire enough immunity against the virus. The main challenge faced during the development of such vaccines was the insufficiency of time, which raised the question about the vaccine safety and efficacy, especially among children. Parents’ and caregivers’ thoughts and acceptance of administering the vaccine to their children are still debatable topics and are yet to be explored in the UAE. Aims: The study aims to exploit parent acce

SARS-CoV-2 the ASIA virus (Autoimmune/autoinflammatory Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants), the risk of infertility and vaccine hesitancy.

INTRODUCTION: COVID-19 has had a catastrophic impact on the world. The current death toll far exceeds 6 million and large numbers of patients are experiencing long-term medical and psychiatric morbidity from the infection. The immunopathology of severe COVID-19 is now better understood. In severely affected patients, there is a chaotic, destructive immune response triggered by SARS-CoV-2, where autoimmunity features prominently. AREAS COVERED: COVID-19 vaccines ensure a coordinated, balanced immune response to future SARS-CoV-2 infection. The rapid global deployment of effective COVID-19 vacc

Comparative effectiveness of mandates and financial policies targeting COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy: A randomized, controlled survey experiment.

Experts debate whether COVID-19 vaccine mandates or financial incentives will reduce, rather than increase, interest in vaccination. Among 3,698 unvaccinated U.S. residents, we conducted a randomized, controlled survey-embedded experiment to estimate the absolute and relative psychological effects of vaccine policies specifying: mandates by employers or airlines, bars, and restaurants; lotteries for $1 million, $200,000, or $100,000; guaranteed cash for $1000, $200, or $100; and $1,000 as either a tax credit or penalty. Vaccine intention -the study outcome- predicts uptake and provides insight

Vaccine hesitancy among communities in ten countries in Asia, Africa, and South America during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vaccine hesitancy is considered one of the greatest threats to the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination programs. Lack of trust in vaccine benefits, along with concerns about side effects of the newly developed COVID-19 vaccine, might significantly contribute to COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. The objective of this study was to determine the level of vaccine hesitancy among communities in particular their belief in vaccination benefits and perceived risks of new vaccines. An online cross-sectional study was conducted in 10 countries in Asia, Africa, and South America from Februa

An integrated model of the emotional, cognitive, and community-related dimensions affecting vaccine hesitancy during COVID-19 pandemic.

This paper proposes an integrated model of cognitive, emotional, and community-related predictors of vaccine hesitancy. A multiple mediation model was run using Structural Equation Modeling to test the role of perceived job and economic insecurities, pandemic-related emotions, and Sense of Community (SoC) as to respondents' vaccine hesitancy, through the mediation of safeguarding one's own and others' health and re-accessing pre-pandemic public and social life as motivations toward vaccination. Data was gathered from 432 Italian citizens through an online questionnaire. Results suggest that wh
