Effect of serum apelin and elabela levels in pregnancies complicated with preeclampsia in association to BMI, CRP and parity.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a serious and life-threatening condition often complicating the pregnancy leading to preeclampsia, eclampsia, maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. Preeclampsia is myriad of diseases starting from improper remodeling of spiral arteries, poor placentation leading to fatal consequences of intrauterine fetal and maternal death due to uncontrolled blood pressure. Thirty-three preeclamptic women in Group 1 and thirty-three healthy pregnant in group 2 has been taken in this research. Statistical analysis and evaluation were performed by utilizing SPSS

The development of a culturally appropriate school based intervention for Australian Aboriginal children living in remote communities: A formative evaluation of the Alert Program® intervention.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Although previous research has demonstrated the benefits of targeting self-regulation in non-Aboriginal children, it is unclear whether such programs would be effective for Aboriginal children attending school in remote communities. Some of these children have been diagnosed with a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) impairing their ability to self-regulate. The aim of this article is to describe a three phase formative process to develop and pilot a curriculum version of the Alert Program® , a promising intervention for improving self-regulation that could be used in remote

Twin delivery.

The incidence of twin pregnancy has increased worldwide over the past 10 years largely as a consequence of the assisted reproductive technologies. Issues such as intrapartum monitoring and operative interventions, especially with regard to the second twin, provide a unique challenge in labour and delivery. Epidemiological data suggest that the term twin has a threefold higher mortality rate than the singleton. It is the authors' view that many aspects of twin delivery deserve as much import as those features of twin gestations such as pre-term birth and intrauterine growth restriction that, to

Reliability of a self-report Italian version of the AUDIT-C questionnaire, used to estimate alcohol consumption by pregnant women in an obstetric setting.

AIM: Alcohol consumption during pregnancy can result in a range of harmful effects on the developing foetus and newborn, called Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD). The identification of pregnant women who use alcohol enables to provide information, support and treatment for women and the surveillance of their children. The AUDIT-C (the shortened consumption version of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test) is used for investigating risky drinking with different populations, and has been applied to estimate alcohol use and risky drinking also in antenatal clinics. The aim of the st

Association Between Third-Trimester Ultrasonography With Histopathological Changes in the Placenta Among Mothers With Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

Background Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a prevalent metabolic disorder during pregnancy, associated with significant maternal and fetal complications. GDM affects placental structure and function, potentially compromising fetal development. Third-trimester ultrasonography (USG) serves as a non-invasive tool for fetal and placental assessment, while histopathological examination provides definitive evidence of placental changes. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between third-trimester USG findings and placental histopathological changes in GDM pregnancies. Methodology A ho

Induction of labor for suspected fetal macrosomia: An updated meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials and trial sequential analysis.

BACKGROUND: Fetal macrosomia is linked with increased risks of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes, such as shoulder dystocia, cesarean delivery, and birth trauma. The optimal management strategy for non-diabetic pregnancies with suspected macrosomia remains uncertain, with conflicting evidence from previous trials. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of labor induction on maternal and neonatal outcomes in this population. SEARCH STRATEGY: We searched electronic databases up to June 2025 to identify randomized clinical trials comparing induction of labor with expectant management for suspe

Mifepristone and misoprostol versus misoprostol alone for induction of labor in women with intrauterine fetal death: A meta-analysis and systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Misoprostol is largely used in labor induction in cases of intrauterine fetal death. However, recent randomized clinical trials (RCTs) showed that the combination of mifepristone and misoprostol might have better effects than the use of misoprostol alone. OBJECTIVES: To compare mifepristone and misoprostol lines of treatment. SEARCH STRATEGY: Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane and Web of Science databases were systematically searched until April 9, 2024. SELECTION CRITERIA: The eligibility criteria were (1) RCT, (2) comparing misoprostol alone versus the combined treatment, (3) patients u

Risk Factors, Associations, and Outcomes of Reduced Fetal Movements: A Preliminary Cross-Sectional Study at Port Sudan Maternity Hospital.

BACKGROUND: Reduced fetal movements (RFM) are a significant concern in obstetric care. They often indicate fetal distress and are associated with adverse perinatal outcomes such as stillbirth and intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). While RFM is recognized as a critical marker of fetal well-being, there is a limit to the data available on its risk factors and outcomes in the Port Sudan region. This study aimed to estimate risk factors and outcomes of pregnancies at risk due to RFM. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional hospital-based study, conducted from February to August 2022 at Port Suda

Impact of prenatal maternal psychological distress on fetal biometric parameters in household air pollution-exposed Nigerian women.

RATIONALE: Studies identify prenatal household air pollution (HAP) exposure and maternal psychological distress (PMPD) as independent factors contributing to gestational ill-health and adverse birth outcomes. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the impact of PMPD on fetal biometric parameters (FBP) in HAP-exposed pregnant Nigerian women. METHODS: The randomized controlled trial (RCT; ClinicalTrials.gov NCT02394574) investigated effects of HAP exposure in pregnant Nigerian women (n = 324), who customarily cooked with polluting fuels (firewood or kerosene). Half of the women (intervention group) were g

In vitro gastrointestinal simulation of tempe prepared from koro kratok (Phaseolus lunatus L.) as an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor.

Prenatal pulmonary delivery of cells, genes or pharmacologic agents could provide the basis for new therapeutic strategies for a variety of genetic and acquired diseases. Apart from congenital or inherited abnormalities with the requirement for long-term expression of the delivered gene, several non-inherited perinatal conditions, where short-term gene expression or pharmacological intervention is sufficient to achieve therapeutic effects, are considered as potential future indications for this kind of approach. Candidate diseases for the application of short-term prenatal therapy could be the
